Tim's Factory Five Mk4 Build Thread
So #7393 has finally arrived!!
I ordered the complete Mk4 kit back in mid October 2010 from the USA and it finally arrived today to my house in Perth. So just a bit over 4 months it took. Not too bad I think.
Big thanks to FFR for making the kit, I think I am really gunna enjoy this. Also to C8Freightworks for organising the shipping. Really these guys were very helpful and did a great job in spite of me constantly bugging them for info and updates.
And there is also another couple Perth lads who also have these cars, thanks in advance to them for all the help I know I will be seeking, along with the help to date.
And for some proof, here are the pics
This weekend I will finish unpacking and start some inventory. Plus try and re-organise the garage so it all fits in. Wife has had the Pajero kicked outside, but gotta keep room inside for the clubby!

is that crate made of treated lumber? i was told Ausi customs won't recieve shipments unless the packaging is made of treated materials.

Congratulations! Now the fun begins, and is only topped when you drive it for the first time. That gel coat looks pretty nice. They say it saves a huge amount of time in body work. Please be sure to inform us your thoughts on that as you proceed with your build thread.

Mr.Bruce
Imported timber packaging must comply to ISPM 15 international phytosanitary prevention convention.
It can be treated with either Methyl-bromide, or heat treated with the core reaching 65deg for 30 minutes.
Only certified sources of material and packaging suppliers are permitted to supply, the timber / product.
The finished crate and its components will be stamped,
If the product comes into Australia without this stamp and certification papers it will be quarantined and you will be up for de-vanning, unpacking, fumigation and destruction of packaging materials which may also include any soft furnishings.
In a previous life i managed a timber packaging business in Melbourne.
Forgot to add, plywoods and particle boards are exempt as by the nature of there manufacture they exceed the requirements and are there fore exempt.
Regards
Dave

Great to see this happen Tim, was going to go this route myself about 2 years ago, even had a phone chat with Dave (Albany Cobra) about quality of parts with his FFR Daytona.
Unfortunately, while procrastinating about freight costs, chassis testing and what parts I might not be able to use etc the Aussie dollar nosedived thru the floor so I went local with a Classic Revival kit.
Looking forward to hearing how you progress having all the parts on the shelf etc.
Regards,
Dennis

Well done there! Warwick Harrison might have a few thoughts on building and registration of these, as he had a deal with factory Five for some time - I am not sure how far that went, beyond a few Daytonas. Are you going for right or left hand drive?

They will receive them but they require fumigating which costs a fortune!

Congrats Tim
I'll bet levering off that lid on the box was suspensful
We'll all look forward to the progress, it will be interesting to see if the kit goes together easily given that these kits seem to include every nut and bolt. It'll save you many trips to the local hardware guys.

DaveW, I was looking through your gallery at pictures of your chassis. Love the round tube replacing the square. Why did you get the chassis delivered without powder coating or painting?
Regards.

Thanks for comments guys. It's not RHD yet, so that is one of the small challenges I will face going forwards.

Just speculating but Im guessing there may be some mods to be done for RHD conversion so thought he would paint after. Looks great. Very exciting, makes me wish I was starting again.

Hi Mando,
The pictures of the chassis in the gallery were at Ian's being prepped for someone else when i picked mine up, took a photo cause i didn't get the chance with mine.
My chassis has been sandblasted after final weld, then supplied hi gloss black from Ian, he paints them in polyurethane, looks beautiful.
I'll take some detail photos as soon as i get the body off, garage floor goes in next Monday, so not far off starting the build.
regards
Dave

Looks good Tim. If it is anything like the Daytona, it will be a walk in the park.
The FFR cars are so easy to build.
At least your crate arrived in one piece. Mine was smashed and Dave (Albany Cobra) had his squashed.
Cheers,
Ricky.
