A quick update
I know it's been a while, but progress is being made I promise. I seem to be in that phase of a zillion little details that just eem to consume a heap of time, but I am getting there.
Anyway, I took these photos a couple months back and have been meaning to put them so here they are.
The most notable changes in these photos is the extra sheetmetal defining the cockpit and boot areas.
All these gauges are actually working too - took a bit with getting the gauges and the ECU talking to each other, but job done now.
Generally came up fairly well I think.
Actually the car is now largely mechanically and electrically complete. All the more recent effort is going onto things like adding sound and heat insulation, getting the body ready to fit etc etc. I think there will be a fair bit of visual progress coming up which is exciting.
Oh, and as an aside, there is a new acquisition in the garage

Nice update Tim.
How's the body holding up? I read somewhere that they can twist over time when not fixed to the chassis. I know you had that frame to keep it up high, but haven't seem pics of it. For a while. I ask because I expect my build might take a few years too, so wondering what precautions are necessary here.

Hi guye,
there is a pic of my frame earlier in this thread. But the body does seem to have held up well. It does not look like it has sagged or warped, but then again, as I am about to fit it up, I might be in for a surprise.....

So get the body on today. Not permanently on, but for a trial fit.
I had to do some trimming on the lower edge on the RHS because of my modification to lower the floor under my feet. Just a small slice had to come out.
Overall seems to fit OK. I think it is sitting about 5 - 10mm too far aft, just got to see what I might need to do to move it forwards a bit. Still at least it is starting to look like a car!

Jethrow, for a good test fit you should have all of the bulb seal, etc. on the aluminum where it belongs, especially on the rear and side trunk aluminum, and chassis hoops and rails where required. Install the screws under the doors and the front and rear quick jacks/bumpers. You must do this before fitting doors, trunk, hood for bodywork.
Rough-install the dash (I see it under the plastic sheet) to see how much of the top of the dash is covered by the body, so you can determine where to locate your dash screws so you can remove the dash with the body on; I just fit my body today, and the body partially covers some of the screw heads.
Fit the windshield and locate/cut holes in the body for windshield wipers and defrost vents (if they are in your plan).
While the body is firmly attached, fit and attach the under-door aluminum pieces (makes carpeting easier, once the body comes off again).
You probably know all this, but just in case.....

Thanks for the comments Dale. I was planning to do pretty much as you suggest, but I don't mind hearing I am on the right track. Ref the dash screws, I was considering perhaps adding a small notch in the underside of the edge to give the required access. Reinforcing the back with some HSRF first.

So made some headrests for the seats over the last few days. Not finished of course, but you can see how it will look. Next step is to paint the stem, then get the top padded and covered.
Looks OK I think.
