Brisbane Council's
Seems the recent floods, hurricanes have affected the thinking - brain - of some Brisbane Councils.
This evening Today Tonight program featured a young man with his GT Ford in his garage displaying a letter from the Council stating that he will be fined up to $160000 if he works on his GT in the garage at home.
I know common sense will prevail with the Council Officers if he is found working on his car..
The GT was in a garage stored with a motor bike and it appeared that he was working on the car - it was not a shed full of welding or panel shop equipment but rather the average shed/garage.
Mmmmm worth keeping an eye on Councils. Then again try getting a Council worker out after hours..;

What's the rest of the story ? Big tune ups after midnight. Burnout comps out the front on Sat arvo. Probably the old story of a cranky neighbour that doesn't like him.

I wondered that too Rob, but he seemed your average young guy probably in his early thirties, well presented and well spoken.
As Bernie says there didn't appear to be a large collection of welding or grinding gear -- just a normal back yard shed.
I have to say however that this was not the Brisbane council, it was Logan, to Brisbane's south. We're used to seeing weird stories like this from the various Sydney suburban councils but they're very rare up here. Logan councillors seem to spend all their time fighting with one another, not their constituents.
There was a quick comment made at the end of the story saying that Ch7 were going to follow it up. It'll be interesting to see what sparked it.

Must be something specific to that local council. I am not aware of any local plannning legislation that would prohibit working on a car unless it was carrying out a business.
If he was pouring oil down the drain or in the garded that would be a different story.
Hardly think that a young hoon could afford that sort of car.

could his residence be under some body corporate structure? Such things can prohibit working on vehicles.

Yes was interesting. There was some discussion on radio this morning about this. Appears that some Queensland Councils have or implementing Local Laws prohibiting work on cars and even prohibiting retired Grandpa from doing wood work in his garage.
Neither require a disgruntled neighbor to lodge a complaint. Apparently going to be followed up by Council By - Laws Officer. The same people that issue Parking Fines...

If a person can't do basic maintenance and safety checks as described in the vehicles operators manual this becomes a safety issue. If someone gets hurt I hope they sue the arse off them.
As far as I'm concerned, this is Australia, we have rights. It's my house, my dirt, I can open the door and take a p*ss on my dirt whenever I want.
What a pack of whackers.

Logan council what a joke.
I live in logan and they are a pack of a$%^oles to deal with. I may have worked on cobras at home for 10 years never had a complaint from my neigbours but as soon as the developer next door didnt need my power or help he called the council. and that is that as they say . Lots of threats and paperwork but in the end i moved into my industrial unit and have never looked back though i am still trying to get my sheds approved 14 months later.
The councils see them selves as little hitlers making rules to suit them selves and bugger what anyone else has to say .
They are all wannabe federal pollys yea like the parrot i think.
Oh i am sorry did i hold back a bit.
They cant tell the difference between a guy restoring a car and a comercial work shop.
Though i think if you are not anoying your neigbours or inpacting on the enviorment ie draining oil in stormwater drains it should be Ok to work at home .
