Clutch choice for LSx w/T-56
I'm looking at clutches for what will be an LSx T-56 combination, and am interested to see what others are using?
I know I won't be using factory, it will definately be aftermarket. Have people sourced clutches from the US, or local performance shops?
What are people's experiences?
I'm looking for something street driveable, that can handle up to 400kw (flywheel). I'm not adverse to something racy such as ceramic puck, as long as it's sprung for some streetability.
Any recommended solutions for this combination in a Cobra?
Ben

I fitted the LS7 Corvette clutch, imported from speedinc.com. Factory feel but heaps better than the Commodore unit.
Some other popular options include Textralia, Mal Wood, etc.
There is also a wealth of info if you search this forum.

Ben,
I used Mal Wood's option 3 clutch package with a billet flywheel. Nice smooth operation, much lighter than I thought it would be.
Cheers

Also have a look at Mal Wood's remote bleed kit and braided line from the master cylinder. Both worthy additions to the T56.

The Mal Wood options look good, price seems comparable on the surface to what a similar product would cost landed here from the US. The remote bleed will be a definate addition!

Mal was really easy to deal with too. He also supplied my gearbox (with shifter relocated) and exchange diff (LSD) as well. We had a few conversations about which 'box and diff ratios would suit the car's usage.
Aussie Mike's shift relocation kit could be an option as well.
Cheers

Textralia
A lot of guys on the LS1 forum recommended the the Textralia so I am running with it and seems Ok so far, only done 50 klm's at the moment so not a fair test.
Aussie mikes conversion feels great too.

I am running Mal Woods organic stage 3, has been a good unit and Mal is very helpful. Pedal effort is a bit high compared to others, I would try theLS7 clutch if I was starting again.
Braided -4 clutch line and bleeder are a must.

I used the LS7 clutch with a tilton hydraulic throwout bearing with remote bleeder which all seems to work fine. I can push the clutch pedal to the floor by hand with minimal effort and approx 5 to 1 pedal ratio.

ah now we're getting somewhere, disagreement! Are you referring to the "factory" LS7 clutch? If so where is it sourced?

Mine is factory LS7 supplied over the counter by GM I believe. It was supplied to me by Daytona sportscars, Richard told me with the testing he did the LS7 clutch was fine.

I am running the TKO 600 behind the LS1 but I assume fitment would be the same for the T56.

Going with a factory LS7 clutch would provide a good compromise of performance, reliability and driveability. Just can't beat the quality and design of genuine parts.
We have new genuine GM LS7 flywheel & clutch assemblies on the shelf. Let me know if you are interested and I can grab some pricing as it will save me the trouble of putting them on ebay.

Modena,
Not sure of the best place to get an LS7 clutch, but I have heard several people comment on how light they are yet handle power. I am sure Craig will give you a deal.
In the Classic Revival you need to remove the engine to get to the clutch, therefore strength was my highest priority. The stage three clutch is really good and takes the abuse from track days. I just feel that if you can get clamping pressure with light pedal pressure it is a bonus.
I still drive my car to work sometimes, but my left leg is bigger than the right!

If you are just doing street driving I would go with Craigs factory clutch. But, if you are going to do other track stuff you may want to have one made out of Kevlar or some other material. Single disc clutches run me around $150 and for multi-disc clutches their considerably more. We have several places here that make race clutches as do most larger cities. I would imagine several suppliers have to supply the clutches for your Super Car Series!

with the AUD above parity, LS7 is looking a good option:
