Seems crazy that my Mercury Comet (with a boot big enough to fit the entire cast of Sopranos), with a full tank of fuel, iron small block with iron heads, iron intake and cast headers weighs 2860 pounds!

Weight loss
I am working on the weight issue my car has.
1. New aluminum 8.8 inch diff going in.
2. Au falcon rear control arms replaced with chromoly tube arms.
3. SFI scattershield replaced with Lighter quicktme belhousing.
4. Advan Light weight racing rims replacing the Billet rims.
This should reduce the unsprung weight by half and the overall weight significantly.
I am not sure how much fuel the car had in it when it was weighed so maybe if it had 50kgs of fuel, I will only run with enough fuel for the session next time.
Also the driver can drop about 15kgs as well!!!!

Krait what do you put the LF/RR issue down too??...10kgs seems a lot without you in!!

Over the last week of so there's been a bit of work done to the front end to increase caster. Once that was done the car was corner weighted again and the spring perches adjusted. Had about half a tank of fuel this time. Battery location has always been behind the radiator.
Result was LF 270 RF 301
LR 311.5 RR 345.5
LR/RF Cross 612.5
RR/LF Cross 615.5
Total 1231kg inc 91kg driver ballast
3kg is a much better result.
Steers a lot better now too.
Also used the opportunity to install the Corvette sump that I've had sitting in my Saudi apartment for over a year. The original sump had scrape marks where it occasionally hits the edge of my driveway.

Hi Geoff, I'm curious to hear why you went for more castor and how it was done. It looks from the above photo that you have replaced the Z arms with adjustable items and bent/pressed the upper A arms?

Hi Paul,
Being back in Oz for a few months has allowed me to do a fair bit of driving in the Cobra, didn't get home at all last year and the poor thing sat in the shed I felt that the car was a bit darty on the road and wasn't entirely happy with the self centring of the steering. Anyway after some consultation decided to add caster and get the balance sorted.
Simply installing the adjustable radius rods added considerable caster but pulled the wheel too far forward in the arch. In the rally cars I used to play with we used adjustable radius rods and adjustable tops on the MacPherson struts to achieve camber/caster. So to move the upright aft new top wishbones were fabricated with offset built in.
On the drive home the car seemed more planted. Unfortunately the speedo lights and the temp gauge played up so I've had the dash partly pulled apart hence unable to go out for a drive since. Hopefully Thursday the missus and I will head down the coast for lunch.

They're a Whiteline product, W82567. Fairly beefy for our use but easier than fabricating an alternative.

No worries Rog, just remember that adding too much caster will result in the wheel not being centred in the wheel arch.

It was interesting reading this older thread that Geoff pointed out on the Radius Arms thread.
The common aspects being the +50% rear weight bias in most Cobras and the carrying weights. My iron block Harrison (ally heads, etc) was 1109kg with a full tank of fuel (no driver). It would interesting to see the Left Right balance on cars as well. After some limited experience with the corner weight scales, I wouldn't mind betting that there was a Right>Left variation as well on most cars, without the driver.

Yeah Harrisons are usually 50/50 with an iron block V8 up front.... Alloy engines are obviously lighter..... My DRB is the same, 1285kg with me in it and half a tank of fuel, 642 front and rear... No alloy engine..

Yes, but is also the right to left variations that are interesting in the table, especially given that the driver will sit on the RHS.
