In the past I've mentioned that one of my favorite ford motor combinations is the Windsor block with Cleveland Heads (The Boss Motor basically).
Well pictured below is the pinnacle of that combo for me.
I was visiting Chris Lidgerwood the other day and he showed me this awesome collection of goodies he's put together. This is basically most of a Glenn Seton Racing Ford V8 Supercar motor.
This thing is awesome and not something you often get to check out up close. I'm fascinated by the engineering that goes into engines and machinery so I'm loving looking at all the technology that goes into one of these motors.
The manifold is a Morrison Cross ram that is port matched to the Ford SVO Yates C3 heads.
The heads are heavily worked over and feature some very nice Jessel shaft mount roller rockers. The ports are just huge.
The Injection manifold is a work of art and has TPS as well as telemetry sensors. The trumpets are easily removed so they could install different lengths for different engine characteristics.
There's a valley plate that goes under the manifold and then a carbon fiber air box that sandwiches between the manifold and the heads. They didn't want any engine heat getting into the intake air.
The other thing I like is the angled distributor drive. Not wanting to compromise on the injection trumpet locations they use a neat helical drive arrangement to keep the distributor out of the way.
The motor runs a 5 stage dry sump setup with an integrated
oil filter mount. I've seen dry sump pumps before but I though the integrated filter setup was cool.
The Pump scavenges from 3 points on one side of the sump and 4th point on the front of the sump.
The cam is belt driven so they can make cam timing adjustments in the pits etc. It's a neat piece of engineering.
I asked Chris why wasn't this motor in his Cobra? He replied with a sad face that it won't fit
The engine setback in his Python and the width of the foot boxes means the big Yates heads wont fit in there. His Python is an earlier chassis before George widened the engine bay to fit the newer modular motors. He doesn't want to go cutting into it because it's all painted nicely now.
Chris is selling off all the parts except the dart block which he plans to use with some after market Windsor style heads which should fit in his engine bay. The whole thing has been dummy bolted together to see how it would fit so it isn't a running motor as it is.
