Default Legal side pipes?

Not sure if this will eventuate, but if so, then surely it would set a precident for Cobra owners?

The Pics look more like dual exhaust tips - not so much pipes

I imagine that sidepipes on an off-roader would be good for steam-cleaning the doors during water crossings (?)

Other videos show the AMG version still with only the exhaust tips, same as the lesser models. Interesting to see if the Australian versions will be able to be registered with the exhaust tips exiting in front of the rear wheels though. It makes sense from a serious off-road driving perspective not to have rear exiting exhausts so as to increase the departure angle but you have to wonder how many of these $200K-plus Mercs will see serious off-road use. They're too ugly for the Toorak/ Double Bay/ Kenmore set and the cockies can't see past Toyota so I wonder where they'll fit into the Oz market?

In NSW the exhaust can exit the side of the vehicle as long as it's behind the last body seam AND it must exit on the side away from pedestrians.

Dodge Viper had side-pipes too -but in AU it had a rear exiting underbody system and the side pipes were not live

The Benz is also not a class MA vehicle such as Cobras - it's an MC because it's a 4WD, so it can do this. Unless you fit 4wd and get some serious approach / departure angles, it's not a loophole you can go through, unfortunately.
