Merv, I was just looking at them as an easier option than full subframe removal.
This is most likely a stupid question but when fitting an adjustable camber upper arm are you guys replacing the factory camber bolt as well or retaining it? I have been looking over the drift work kits for adjustable upper and lower arms, toe adjustment and the tie rod kit......... that should be enough adjustment for most purposes. |
The guys at Option 1 Nissan say those C collar kits really do the job and fit in under 30 mins, without removing the subframe.
Not exactly sure which camber bolt you mean Leigh, but the WhiteLine upper arms have their own adjustment and you can get the required settings (usually about -1 deg for street use). With the standard arms and the factory setup for the coilovers, the best you can usually get is -3 deg. Way too much. :: Japanese Motor Sport Online Store :: - R32 Whiteline Adjustable rear upper camber arms |
Hi Merv, they are the ones that I have (not fitted yet - but will in the next week)however I also have a camber adjuster bolt (cocentric) where the arm mounts to the subframe. I was planning on replacing this with a normal high tensile bolt as this adjustment bolt is not needed as the adjustment is in the arm.
Perhaps it has been retrofitted at some stage. |
Yes Leigh - that is the way to go. You won't need both. I have ordered the ally bushes for the subframes.
|
Ally sub-frame collars fitted. Easy job and seems to compress the bushes well.

My Skyline cradle/k-frame (as the wreckers call it) hasn't been reconditioned or even painted so I've decided to go all out with adjustable upper and lower rear camber arms and torsion arms, below. I'm going to source a second k-frame on the cheap and rebuild the whole lot out of car with new bushes and a coat of gloss black, then swap the old with the new and get everything aligned with (hopefully) minimal time off the road.

That is the good thing about the Nissan rear, so many after market parts! Should do well Paul.

Paul
Great idea! Where did you source the lower A style arm? I haven't seen those before (not that I have looked!) Geof |
Hi Geof, I got them from a NZ ebay seller. They provided a discount on the whole deal including free postage. The lower arms are listed below. Very solid units.

I also found the suspension bush collars and the solid diff mounts made a difference. Bit more noise from the rear, but much stiffer. I will check out those lower arms too.

Very good stuff - the pillow ball tie rod ends (front) are very similar to the ones that Muzza made for the rear!

CV joints
Thought I would share some info on the CV joints in these Nissan rear ends. My driver's side outer CV has developed a 'click' and I found it also has a split boot that's leaking grease.
The local CV place said they can only get replacement CVs from Nissan so I called the dealer and they're $350 changeover. For second hand units, the going rate at the wreckers is $100-150. The CV guy can fit new boots and re-grease for $55 per side, which is fairly cheap insurance if you want to avoid replacing them outright. |
You can buy after market CV boot kits for about $10 a pop and re pack them yourself. It's not a difficult Job. The hardest part is usually getting the axle out in the first place.
Cheers |
Any sources you have noticed for these Mike?
|
I bought boot kits from my local Auto-One store. They had them for Commodore and Ford axles but they seemed to be fairly universal. You probably just need to check the diameter of the CV outer and the diameter of the axle. They are stretchy rubber so could probably fit a variety of axles/CVs.
Take one of your axles in there and measure them or they. A quick search on eBay and I see you can buy a whole new CV with boot kit for $49 CV JOINT NISSAN SKYLINE R32 | eBay Cheers |
That seems worthwhile. Many thanks Mike.

eBay
I recently bought new rear tie rods (for the HICAS elimination) as the LHS has some slack in it. They were $50 the pair (including postage). These CVs are also very reasonably priced.
If you added up all the R32 parts available on eBay you could build a complete car. |
Leroy PM'd me for a comparison between the factory R33 lower camber arms and the aftermarket items. Like Leigh I'm interested to see whether this will allow us to bring the rear track inboard a fraction, in conjunction with the adjustable upper arms.
I'm still a while off refurbishing my new k-frame and fitting the arms but I've done my best to show the difference using a spirit level and builder's square. With the adjustable arm wound almost all the way in I reckon it might be as much as 10mm shorter/narrower. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/P1020046.jpg Sorry about the lens distortion, everything was setup nice and square I promise. :D |
With my split CV boot and the clicking sound not about to disappear, I sent the rear axle to M & S Driveshafts in Sunshine (Melb). They replaced the outer CV, repacked the inner and fitted new boots. $220 including courier across town and back. Had a nice long drive down to Mt Eliza on Saturday, worry free with that little gremlin sorted out.
Last night I stripped my replacement k-frame and trial fitted the adjustable arms. Everything lines up beautifully with a fair bit of adjustment. Next job is to press/heat/burn all the bushes out and fit the new poly bushes. That should be a fun job so I'll try to get some photos. |
