Bernie, if it's for underneath the rear clip, we recommend using some aluminised cloth. It is approximately 2-3mm thick. It will protect the fibreglass and paint from heat damage. Use hi-temp silicone to glue the cloth to the rear clip. For the edges, we just use some masking tape and run a cosmetic bead of silicone over the edges. If you do that for all the edges it actually makes it more durable as it stops the edges fraying and cosmetically looks better.
You could edge trim this cloth as well for a neater finish.
I have attached a photo on a GT40 rear clip. Not the neatest silicone job, but it will give you an idea.
Also another photo with the material used on a rear firewall with grey silicone used to cover the edges.
