Default Home workshop setup.

Hi there everyone,

I dont know why I did not think to ask here earlier, but there ya go.
I am looking to set up a home workshop and am looking for some tools.
I require :

Following items are the really wanted.

Air compressor, wanting a large 3 phase with atleast a twin cylinder pump.
Tig welder, ac/dc high voltage invertor.
Press brake/pan brake, folder, to suit upto 16GA (1.6mm), would like atleast 1 metre width
English wheel (doubt anyone will have one of these floating around but it pays to ask).
Small home workshop lathe.

Following items are less important.

Solid welding/whacking bench (size not important - but 1 metre square as minimum) or if you have a heavy steel plate I could use as a bench top and I will make my own.
Mig welder 200 amp minimum.
Shrinker/stretcher.
Swage machine (bead roller)

I am heading to Melbourne approx 21st May and will be looking for above items aswell, and driving via Adelaide if you know anyone with listed items (returning home with empty car trailer) in either Adelaide or Melbourne.

Cheers everyone, spotters fee for any sales

Dave, sorry I can't help you with the tools but let me know when you master the English wheel as I wouldn't mind a set of spats for my Harrison!

Sambo, first job I attempt on english wheel and shrinker/stretcher will be spats for a Classic Revival.

Sadly I dont have a Harrison close by that I can use as a template.

Boxy,

All I needed for my shed was a heap or polishing rags and polish

Are you going to use your shed as intended.......

Dave, would you consider building an English wheel yourself? Here's a sturdy looking design.

These anvils look reasonably priced inc shipping. He offers them hardened and with trapped axles as well.

I had thought about it Sambo, but I dont have a lathe yet (and cant really afford to buy a new one just yet) So I cant really make without the lathe.

At the moment if nothing second hand appears my shopping list to pick up is.

I have gotten onto a Pan Brake in Alice Springs, but also bidding on this one.
Pan brake 1200mm (eBay item 150602478534 end time 13-May-11 11:28:14 AEST) : Industrial

Also have a guy willing to sell a single phase compressor local (but really looking for a big old 3 phase).

Also these, but also have a contact in Alice who may know of one available.

Attention Dave (AKA Boxhead)

I was way out west yesterday, well a good half a k west of the Sydney to Newcastle Freeway (Hey its all relative and depends on your point of view) I was driving round the back of a property and look what I found…

It is an 'O' type circa 1890 he as all the bits.

He also had a 6 ton Fly Press

I know it’s a long way out of your way but if you are interested or I can help let me know and I’ll give you his contact details.

I spoke to the guy who is relocating down the south coast and he wants $500 each for the English Wheel and Fly Press, The Fly Press also has a very heavy duty table/ stand with it. He is setting up a small factory down south in association with one of the historic car racing clubs and is going to teach the members how to repair their cars and just work on his own projects. He also has an exciting contract to do two trips a year with an American Museum to display and be the sole driver of a ‘barn find’ (I think he said one of only three left in the world, I can’t say what it is.)

Currently he is restoring a written off 1957 190 SL Mercedes one of only three in the country, he reckons he’ll have it finished by Australia Day next year. He is retired and has worked on some very high profile projects. The Mercedes is car 10 out of 30 that were imported over the years the model was available and one of three 1957 cars. It has an aluminium hood, steel body, hard and soft top, mechanically and the interior are like new as it was fully restored before the owner crashed it.
