Unregistered vehicle permit - VIC
I just spent the greater part of my lunch break on hold to VicRoads so I figure I'll try the forum instead.
What are the restrictions on the 28 day permit scheme? From the link below it only mentions time of day and the obvious stuff such as no learner drivers, etc. Further down it says I need to specify the reason for the permit. Will they accept "road testing" as a reason in addition to travelling to/from a workshop, IM240 test, etc? Unregistered vehicle permit : VicRoads Also, what is the cost for 28 days? Looking at the TAC charges in the PDF below, do I divide the annual cost by 12? From memory the permit had a fixed fee component and a sliding fee dependant on whether you were after 1 or 28 days. For the life of me I can't recall the fee but I've got one permit filed so when I get home I'll see if it says anything on this. Sure it was more like $60 or $70 for a month and more cost effective per day for the longest period. Is meant to cover road testing etc. I carried a GPS and was doing a lot of speed checks. Cheers |
I agree with Stephen, it's about $40 up front plus $1 a day, up to 28 days. The way I read the conditions it has to be in a safe and roadworthy condition and not driven at night, for ordinary cars you have to be going somewhere related to repairing or preparing for rego, but for ICV's it said something about testing and setting up. You have no idea how many k's it took me to calibrate my speedo against the GPS. (about 250 actually), Make sure your layup insurance covers you for testing, not just fire and theft.

not sure if it was my second permit but the one I kept was only for 10 days and cost $48.40.
Looks like about $3 for each day requested and $19 for the permit. I too did a lot of testing to be sure the car was sound! |

Thanks guys. Apparently the fine print is all on the form that they will fax through when I've paid over the phone. If I carry the speedo calibration paperwork I can show that I'm conducting a road test to set the speedo.

I did that for a while up here Bernie, after about number 5 they said no more.
