I had issues with the ECU on my engine in the begining.
It took three before I got a decent one.
Apparently there where quite a few 'repaired' warranty ECU's resold through a number of outlets. Fortunately they where more than happy to supply a replacement or two in my case.

I think we all have a spare ECU put away some where. I had three!

Sambo,
Is the IM240 test still applicable in Vic, i thought i read in the posts over the last week that ICV's were now exempt.

Dave, no exemption as far as I know, just a relaxing of the pass levels back to an earlier standard - year 2000 or so I am led to believe. Anyone with the exact info perhaps you can chime in here?

OK some bad news and some good news. Today I took the Cobra down for the IM240 test and it failed dismally, running so rich the hydrocarbon readings were literally off the charts. I scanned the codes and the injector circuit open/malfunction error was back on cylinders 2 & 4. I should've listened to that nagging voice telling me it "just doesn't feel right" - oh well, the money's gone now.

Now for the good news.

Thanks to a suggestion tonight from Doubledip we put a stethoscope to those injectors and what do you know... whereas the other 6 cylinders gave off a loud, regular click, no.s 2 & 4 were barely audible and very irregular. Thanks to another suggestion from Justin we removed the covers from the injector plugs and pushed the contacts a little closer together, put it all back together and bugg3r me, it feels like a new engine! Perfect idle, pulls hard and smooth right through the rev range and all the right sounds from the the stethoscope plus no error codes.

The clutch pedal is out for some minor adjustments so I haven't driven it yet, but rest assured it will get a run this weekend and the camera will be rolling.

A massive thanks to Doubleddip/Justin for all the after hours support and also to Marty Govert - you're right, that $12 stethoscope is quite possibly the best tool you ever bought.

Happy Sambo

Thanks Geoff. I'm seriously considering the far cheaper/easier option of club reg for now. That way I can enjoy the car for a while and take my time on all those 'other' jobs while I save up for the ADR approved seats (required after 30th June), etc, and go for engineering just before summer. Not a bad deal for a few hundred bucks!

What seats are you planning on getting?

I have been looking around and most aftermarket seats are not certified for ADR3/03. Most are ADR3/02 or even 3/01. Then finding some narrow enough is about impossible.

This requirement has been in place in NSW for several years. Its amazing how slow the aftermarket suppliers are to catch up. But then again most of their customers wouldnt need to comply with 3/03.

Zedn, custom seats from a local supplier that are ADR approved. My MX-5 seats will do for club reg though.

Drove the cobra tonight for the first time on 8 cylinders. Whoa mumma! Now I get what all the fuss is about.

Lucky bugga - there is no move to introduce a similar club system in NSW is there?

Good on Ya Paul, I'm still waiting on Vic Roads for my VIN #, seems they may need individual proof of beam and torsion testing not a generic one for all Harrisons of the same design.

Thanks guys. I certainly wouldn't be at this stage without the help and encouragement from this forum. On that note, does anyone know how to donate? I've looked and searched on many occasions but never found any info.

Paul did you look at Warwicks new seat frames? They are fully compliant and made for the Harrison.
