Mustangs - BMK take note

I have been waffling for a while now but I have decided to sell my Mustang at last. Do you think it would be a fun car in OZ? It has a pile of changes from the factory and is great fun on the road as well as the track I beat my friend's 535 twin turbo Beemer to 100 mph with it the other day before the evil gods of wind resistance took over. It is all set to go - I have complete confidence in its reliability and durability. I am going to make a video tomorrow morning so you can get a feel for the power and killer sound effects. I have de-stickered it so it is a little less obvious on the road so it looks like this again but of course it has the roll bars and such that were installed after this picture... it would be a killer car for your Group N - over 400 HP and really top level suspension.. Bernie - time for you to put those burgers to good use and hit the track!

Having read the rules one would need to make some minor mods. I have a MSD ignition - you would have to swap to points. You would have to eliminate the brake bias knob. I think it would be legal as I am using 1969 Boss Mustang rear brakes but you might have to swap in some drums at the rear. Simple to do as it is a drum brake axle with custom made bracketry. Other than those simple things , it should be ready to go... I have some 13.25 compression heads if you would want them - it would significantly increase the power as I am using 10 to 1 heads now...

The Mustang would come into Australia as a race car. Whilst it is occasionally street driven - we ran the streets of Scottsdale Az. in the early hours in race trim - it is purpose built as a track car and would suit that use here. Think it is N Class racing here and club racing with Cobras etc..
It is unbelievable fun.

I have a new cam and MSD ignition and a few other small things - about $3000. I do not have any idea how your MOT works at all - probably difficult for you as well. Outwardly there is no difference between this car and Bernie's convertible - all original road legal running , driving and brake lights, horn and turning indicators work and are on the car. All of the parts except the MSD, Intake and radiator are Ford parts that were available in the 60's. The engine is a 302 block although of modern manufacture but Ford nevertheless. It registers here and in California which is the most difficult place in the US.

Arizona is the equivalent of living in Alice Springs with a big population - cheap real estate and a lot of room. When I lived in the San Francisco area a 3 bay garage would have been on a $3 million dollar house. In AZ it is about 15% of that. I was at a house the other day here in Scottsdale that had a 63 car garage and it was full! All hot rods and 60's muscle cars - quite a collection. P1075 and P1076 are housed here in a building less than a mile from my Palazzo. For those that forget - those are the Lolas.. er Ford GT Gulf Cars that won and placed at Lemans in 1968 / 1969. Next time we meet Bernie, I will try to get us in to see them.
3 bay garages are the minimum really, aren't they? I still fall over my wife's bicycle every time I try to do anything in there just the same..

I will give you a bargain price @ US$32,000. Phil said he could copy it for US$60,000 if anyone wants one as the price of the cars sans rust has gone through the roof. I am taking a bit of a beating at that rate.

You might notice that at :20 I am turning the corner going about 15 mph and at :28 I am near the top of 3rd at 100 mph. It will do 137 in 4th which is about 220 kph - held back by the rev limiter only. With the 12.5 heads it would go quite a bit faster - limit to 7500 instead of 5900.No problems at all keeping up with the flow of traffic and it will go up most hills without difficulty and not a lot of irritating downshifting - like no downshifting at all...

Thanks for the reply, Shame it could only come out to OZ as a race car (if they allowed it) I'd really like to have something like that as my daily driver

Nice looking car. If not for the Cobra the only other muscle car I would really have an interest in would be a worked up Mustang. I passed 3 Corvettes today and ... well I won't say as some might like them.

I can say it - I had a C2 Corvette and it was without doubt the most fragile car I have ever owned. It cost more per mile in maintainence and parts than a 360 Modena. They are good to look at and not so great to drive....
The dream is better than the reality .. The Mustangs are bulletproof cars that you can zoom around in without ever worrying about breakage. Somewhat entertaining as well although not for the neighbours...

Rob - you would have no problem getting federal import approval for this Mustang. From what I see, and in Queensland at least, the car would very easily satisfy rego requirements.

Yes I agree the Mustang can come into Australia no problem. Just spoke to an importer who suggested it is what it is a 60's Mustang.
I suggested race car, as it would make a very reasonable import for a race enthusiast.
