Default Pre 1982

Barry,

The manifold and a few other things I hear.

Its for an old car ( 1977 XC Coupe ) so I want to keep it sort of original.

Actually, the Cleveland was only offered in the US from 1970 to 1974...the 351M (sometimes thought to mean "modified", other times said to indicate "Midland", where the factory was located) and 400M were offered for a considerable time after that.

The "M" series had a higher deck height than the Cleveland. Intake manifolds do not interchange between the Cleveland and the "M" series, not sure about the cranks, but most everything else will.

From a purely power related point, you'd be much better off with the slighter smaller and slightly lighter Cleveland, but if you want to retain the originality you'll need to determine which motor the car has (almost surely one of the "M" series). The "M" series are making great strides, though, as more development occurs. They have recently scored very well in Popular Hot Rodding's "Engine Masters" competition.

Both the Cleveland and the "M" series were part of the Ford 335 family of engines:

{edit....I just realized you're in AU....that's very different, you were lucky enough to have the Cleveland versions for much longer than we Americans had them.}

Cheers from Dugly!!

Smile 351 Cleveland

I have three 351C motors, two blocks, one four bolt main, the others are 2 bolt mains, 2 barrel heads.

Some I remember are '72 and '73. But I would have to look at them again.

For sale cheap. Email me algunruner@aol.com

Dwight

I know I'm a long ways from Australia, but the price it very good.

The simple answer is Yes, Ford Australia used the Cleveland motor in both 302 and 351 format from around 1970 until 1982/83. The blocks between 302 and 351 are the same and crank and rods can be interchanged each way with no problems at all. In NSW the year of manufacture is recorded in the RTA`s computer system and you may need to use the right years engine if transplanted to another car, ie You would need to use a later block if putting it into an XD falcon etc, mostly the difference is relating to the emissions ADR`s of 6/1976, i think for memory the later so called "Black motors" of the early 80`s had a slightly increased cylinder wall to water jacket clearence and the hole thru the block for the distributor shaft, also to drive the oil pump was slightly bigger or smaller?? so an early distributor will not fit a later block or vice versa, but there are no real differences between the early or later block than that, like i said the biggest difference for people in NSW is the correlation between engine number and year of manufacture to satisfy that bloody RTA.

Default 351

Hey Boxhead,

I have sourced a 351 crank/rods etc.

If the block and other stuff is OK I will rebuild it as a 351.

If not I might do the crate engine thing......

Default found some hp ford parts and motors

A guy in Buford Georgia is retired and has his old salvage yard. Lots of early model parts. Had a built 351. Not sure what year but worth a shot. 7709459945 is his garage number he is always looking to sell his stuff. Very fair prices when I bought from him.

All my friends think I'm warped but I always dreamt of having a 351 XC Coupe. Lowered, mini tubs, and all modern running gear, love it.

Regards.

Do you really need to tub a XC coupe?

Back when I was a young fella, a mate had a XC GXL Coupe thing that had 14x12's in the bum, no modification.

I liked the xa gt for the fake vents on the front guards and recessed tail lights, though must admit Seton's silver xb and the red XB currently in the Muscle Car Masters series are hitting the spot.

Whats that one listed for Dave?
