More progress.

A bit worried that the media blasting may have removed some sealing, along with the fact it is 40 years old and there are many panel modifications, so I'm doing new sealing prior to painting.





Engine bay done, now for the underside stone chip.

Sweet, do the kits "need" as many mods as your doing to fit? Or are you making a lot of extra mods along the way?

A basic install only requires the rear tubs to be extended.

I got the interior painted yesterday, and





the stonechip on this morning.

I have settled on a final design for the GM IRS diff installation. It is attached to the original four Datsun mounting points - two at the rear of the transmission tunnel and two spaced apart on the rear cross-member.

Thanks Mike - I hoped there are some out there who find this thread of interest.

Fitting the drivetrain has required some precision due to its bulk compared to the original Datsun items. The jurid coupling between the diff input and the tailshaft leaves little clearance with the new front diff mounts which subsequently have to be secured in the transmission tunnel with countersunk bolts. Unfortunately no bolt supplier had 10mm countersunk bolts with a fine pitch – 1.25.

I purchased longer (75mm) coarse pitch bolts which had a plain shank portion and machined a fine pitch thread into the shank area and then cut them off at 25mm length. Just one on those many many time consuming issues which come up with these builds.

I always find what you are up to interesting. Good to see posts about building cars.

Those bolts are one of those little things where you think it will be a simple job of bolting on only to find many hours work required.

The frustrating thing is when your friends come over and ask what you have done. Looks like nothing to them but you know you have spent many hours.

Yes Blame those American "build" shows that produce a car every week...they don't show their bodgey work or any stuff ups...also notice that they always have a "deadline" to meet. Gives the unknowing public the idea that building a car is simple and straight forward !

That's what they say but what have they done ? ha ha everyone makes mistakes...it probably looked right in the machine vice ! Building a car from scratch is a very rewarding task !

Wheels maketh the car... and they all get it wrong.

All that effort stuffed up by the rear wheels, it makes me want to cry. You HAVE TO remove the original fuel tank, lower the car substantially and fit 16" rims with high aspect ratio tyres, or is my bias showing?

must admit the rear wheels look great on yours, the other one in albury is scott maxwells and he has been told the suspension looks a bit strange.
Is your the same kit that they used in "vanilla sky" the awful movie with tom cruise, apparently they could not get hold of an original so they built the 250 for the movie.
