I'm in a similar situation and currently Considering either interlagos blue or montego blue metallic With either white or Titan silver stripes. These are all BMW colours.

I'm leaning towards a GM "LeMans" blue, similar to Guardsman blue but brighter. From what I gather it appeared on Camaros and Corvettes from 68-71. Here's a photo.

And a sample from the Eastwood paint site. GM Paint Code 976, U and 71.

I agree Paul. I am normally not that keen on light blues, but that works well. Can you try it in the Cobra colour "tester" that was posted earlier (p1)?

When painted the car will be the same colour as the chassis. Its a Ford colour called Velocity

Merv, if you mean the mockups by "Q" then I'm afraid my Photoshop skills don't extend that far. I can't see any relevant links on page 1 either...

That LeMans blue actually has different paint codes in '68 and '69. Apparently the earlier colour had a green tinge in certain light which is reminiscent of Guardsman blue, but again not as dull as Guardsman.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to get a can of paint made up based on a PPG code? Probably not cheap.

Sambo,
I just had a sample made up of a PPG colour at the auto paint store in Pakenham near me,
gave him the PPG code he made a call to Proline ?, looked up a website and 5 minutes later i had a sample.
The sample was not PPG paint, but was good enough for me to confirm the color choice.
I wanted the sample in a 2 pack so it cost me $70. for 250ml about $280 / Litre of Proline,

I dont want to know what PPG cost is yet.

Ouch!

I just had a litre mixed up of a very dark blue pearl and it was only about $93. Thats in Debeers Berobase with a lot of dye and pearl added. Its unlikely you will notice any difference between the brands.

My new thing now when i buy stuff is to say 'oh im glad i got here on (insert day)'. "Why?" they usually ask. "Because thats when you have these on special, i read it on your website'. Discount usually follows with a laugh. Sounds stupid but seriously try it.

My Por 15 order dropped 20% when i did this last week.

Berobase is an acrylic, are you putting that on your chassis by itself, or are you going to clear it with something tougher ?

Berobase is debeers base coat for use under 2k clears. it cannot be used by itself. De Beer Refinish

I have tried something a little different with my chassis. I first sanded it then marine clean, metal ready, por 15, blue pearl base coat, then Glisten PC.

Its kind of a long story why i went this way. I was originally planning on using just silver por 15. When i spoke to the guy at PPC he told me that the silver changes colour overtime and showed me a sample. I was then going to use the sterling silver over the top but found out it is semi gloss. That led me to purchasing por 15, sterling silver and then glisten PC over the top.

After getting it all home, i decided the sterling silver wouldnt give me the finish i wanted as it is not metallic so i decided to use the pearl blue that i am using for the body.

I sprayed it on the weekend and it turned out great until i discovered the base coat hadnt covered properly. I am now in the process of rubbing it back to recoat with the blue.

My colour is a 2002 Volkswagon polo colour. It's called 'Ingoroblau Pearl' which i think translates to Indigo blue.....

Liam,
A good trick to attain a complete coverage is to have a 'spotter' with a bright lamp standing by. Get them to have a look around after each coat/pass... as well as having a "spray check sheet". Use 'paint' or something similar on your computer and print up a sheet with a checkerboard design ( squares about 10mm) Black and White checks and then stick it near where you are painting. As you put down a coat of paint do the same on the "spray check sheet". When the sheet is completely covered you have the same on the project.....Then, if there is one side of the panel that is poorly covered. You can blame the 'spotter' !

Thanks for the tip Rob. Thats a great idea with the checkered sheet. I dont have a spare 2pack mask for the spotter though.

A big part of the problem is getting into all the nooks and cranneys in the chassis. Going to use my smaller gun this time. Also the lighting wasnt good in the garage after making a booth out of plastic. I have a halogen spot light but it is really difficult to spray with it shining straight on becuase it kind of shines through the paint and you cant see the texture.

Its a beautiful colour i am spraying. It is a motor bike colour with a lot of pearl in it. The only problem is that the pearl plays tricks on you whilst spraying. When you look side on the coverage looks great, but when it gets to the angle where it flips you can see straight through it. Im sure it should have a ground coat but the shop says the formula doesnt list one.

It did 3 coats of blue on the weekend and im not happy with it so now i am rubbing back the clear and will spray another 4 coats of blue with a bit less thinner before shooting it over with clear again. I am going to spray it outside this time if we ever get good weather again. Not too worried about a few little spots of dirt when it is the chassis. I have a booth lined up to spray the body in.

Jamie, that looks like the current commodore blue that they use for some of the police cars. Nice looking colour.

Looks like a very nice chassis....be interested to know how much the car will weigh with all that steel......steel is good in the right place but there looks like alot of unnessesary weight here....
