Being a Queenslander you might want to investigate putting some ducting from your engine bay to the 'original' cooling vents on the bodywork... enclosing the engine bay like that looks cool but it can get quite hot...... Just a thought.

The plan is to direct the warm air from the radiator downwards in an attempt to keep the engine bay cool. The panels are also easily (?) removable so once all the engine work is done, additional ducting (e.g. gaping holes in the panels) will be added as necessary. Not sure how this will be tested yet.

Is heat a problem Geof? I used some of that sophisticated insulation and then over that some ally panels on the sides of the tunnel and around the bell housing. If anything the interior is too cool! At least in winter.
I do like the 'made for purpose' fender protector!

Slow progress this week. The left side is mostly done.
Merv, I am not worried about heat in the cockpit, but Ash is right in being careful to have enough air circulating around the various engine components e.g. wiring, cooling. I will see how it goes before adding some ducting and trimming panels down for access (e.g. to front upper A-arms).
AC-460, the headers are already ceramic coated - quite cool, realtively.

Nope. These are just still there from the lifting process. Very useful. Now on blocks.

Slowly at this stage. Sheeting is mostly done. Enging should be going back together shortly.

Getting there ...
After a couple of hiccups, the 302 is almost resembling an engine again. Actually probably more so now than before - this was certainly part of the intention of the refresh. The bottom end is all back together and the main top end components are fitted.
Next phase is fitting the plumbing and electricity for the EFI. The plan is to complete this while the engine is out of the car. Once done, peripherals will be removed and the whole lot shoehorned back into the car.
Here is the latest:

As I said the other day Geof, it is looking great and I'm sure you have had a lot of fun doing it. You're not going to bench test it?

NIce work geof, i have the same tope end set up, massflo and trick flow, although mine are the 190 heads. If you want more power later very easy to upgrade with dart block etc. 400 at the wheels no probs there.

Thanks, Gents.
Hmmm, 400 at the wheels. New gearbox, new rear end, bigger brakes, .... and on it goes.
Merv, not sure a bench test would be worth the effort of creating the structure to hold the engine or the cooling or the fuel system. It will be easier to just drop it back in the car. The only reason I pulled the whole thing out was to replace the rear main and the gearbox seals. Now I am very glad I did because the thing is so easy to work on at that height.

Merv
I think the diff will remain, at least for now. One of the (many) things I really like about the Cobra is the huge acceleration. With the 4.3 gears in the rear and a few extra ponies, I am sure I will be even happier. I know 1st will be next to useless now and I will still be running at around 2800rpm at 110km/h but I just like the push in the seat when the go pedal hits the stop. I'll have to see how the economy (cough .. who cares .. cough) goes. Previously, I was getting around 25mpg on the highway and about 11mpg on the track (I checked it just for laughs one day). I suspect this will change ... significantly.
