Kirkham 008 for sale in Aus

Here's something you don't see everyday.
Its for sale at Duttons in Melbourne.

After closing costs you'll probably need $300K AUD.
That's about 1-million USD with today's exchange rate

Used Cobra 427 S/C Kirkham 427 SC, For Sale, South Yarra, 1997 Cobra 427 S/C Kirkham 427 SC 8th

No affiliation, but I have checked the car out, and looks in pretty good nick.
It's running all the old school gear with regard suspension etc... with an Iron block FE. Its on club plates. Good to drive for 90-days in the year.

Cheers,
Anth

That's a really nice car!

Pity it will never get full rego. Price is pretty outrageous!

Of note, "This car was assembled by Cobra racer Mike Mc Cluskey for the first owner who owned a genuine 427 SC so that he could keep the real car in a sealed shed and drive the next best on a regular basis"

Interesting bit of history there.

That was featured in unique cars a couple of years back.
Nice car.

Love the colour and the white wheel centres look outstanding!

Regards.

No stripes, simple dash, and great motor and wheels. Very original appearance, but very modern price!

T.L. 07-21-2011 01:18 AM

Could you bring in one cheaper than that price, I mean a lot cheaper.

exchange-rate isn't that much right now what would it actually be?

He may be hard-pressed to get that for his original currently :-)

boxhead 07-21-2011 01:47 AM

I reckon you could, especially since your only going for 90 day rego.

Quick search revealed this on first page.
Cobra Cars Search
$90k US, plus shipping $5k?
Plus taxs?

Gotta be under $300k AU

Merv and Sharon 07-21-2011 01:51 AM

That is a beautiful car Dave. It would do me!

I've never understood why people always talk about the $250-$350k for bringing in a Kirkham. Using their own pricing sheet on their website a RH SC427 with all the good bits comes in at under US$70k. Add a US$25k Keithcraft motor or US$50k for a complete Shelby motor comes to US$120k. From there you can either ship it over by sea for about US$5k or fly it over with DHL for about US$25k. I realize that none of this covers getting it regoed in Australia but how much could it cost for duties, taxes and GST?

Regards.

Here is another optomistic vendor, you have to admire their persaverance, a bit like Lazerus this car......

Used SHELBY, GT 350 GT 350 car for sale in Sydney

Even listed under a novel description???

BMK 07-21-2011 07:07 AM

legless

Isn't this the car that attracted a lot of attention in the For Sale area a little while back.

Must agree with all of the comments.

Yes ring Kirkhams and bring your own roller in.

Buy a Shelby 427. Club rego and your away.....**)

We just need some smart Cobra manufacturer here in Australia to realise that and they would have a damn good business..%/

Anyone want to buy a good Mustang Convertible I need to get onto one of these Kirkhams...

Dimis 07-21-2011 08:59 AM

Legless, I think BMK is onto something.
I also think it is the same car that played out here in the for sale section on clubcobra.

Just quietly, my sums put a Kirkham at about $150k option dependent.

I think you'll find a number of local kit manufacturers are none too happy about the number of American kits being imported as parts or complete cars. Every imported car is one less kit to be manufactured locally and organising a roadworthy for a 90 day permit is hardly a "value add" proposition for them.

Same number I had

Kirkham 008

From memory the car was purchased by a bloke called Ray Delaney for around $100k in 2006 , i think he found the car on EBay.
Very nice car but $288k is a little steep.
Does anyone know what happened to the LHD half fibreglass/aluminium 427 that was for sale in Marrickville in Sydney a while back.
I think the guy was asking $500K,it was silver .
