Default Heater duct attachment under dash

I had planned on plumbing heated air to the dash demist vents via a fibreglass tube I moulded to match the shape of the underside of the dash a while back.

Was originally thinking to use the standard demist vent cover attachment points as a means of hanging the fibregalss tube beneath the dash. I didn't want to permanently attach the modestly large tube to the body via sikaflex or similar.

However am going to make the vents wider than is normal and am likely to also use some other form of air director in the vent holes that wont use bolt mount points so this leaves me without any attachment options.

Am keen for feedback as to how others with working demisters made the link between dash vents and the air supply system.

Cheers

Steve

Default Ducting

Steve

May not be helpful as you didn't want to use Sikaflex. This moulding is Sikaflexed (11FC) to the body and the flexible ducting to the blower.

Cheers

Geof

Thanks Geof

That is exactly what I've made and yes am trying to avoid making it a permanent fixture but I might not be so lucky.

One of the reasons is that I have a vertical plate mounted across the space where your duct tubes run and beneath the wiper tubes to house all my relays and other electrical bits and bobs and am just trying to maintain easier access should I need to go playing with the sparks and arcs down the track

One thought I've had already is to actually finish off the fibreglass duct with its own back. I assume yours is the same as mine currently is and the dash actually forms the back.

But if fully sealed the tube, other than making a connection to the dash vent holes I might be able to mount it in some other way.

Still if anyone else has a useful suggestion please chime in!

hey slowy,

can't you just add some tabs to the moulding and bolt it in?

Ben

hey guys
why don't you try commerial grade double sided tape by 3m for over head vents
we use it to hold mirrors to tiled walls & ceiling access panels in possitive pressure rooms for dust controls
we buy it thru 3m or shower screen supplys
hope this helps

Thanks for the added ideas guys but the tape is akin to permanent placement so again not what I really want to achieve Rob and Ben I can add tabs but where would I bolt onto, as per Geof's pic it is all dash above so the heads would be visible.

If I was using the regular stainless vent covers, these are bolted either end and hence were my original fixing idea but I want to go wider than these. So unless I get a wider pair made I need to find another option.

My earlier comment about making a link to the demist vent holes has some merit if I can find vent louvres that I can make an interferrence fit into the dash and simply hang the air supply tube off beneath.

Seems I might have to hit the pick a part yards for some inspiration.

I guess you could just glue or glass some bolts to the underside of the dash. Then just use wing nuts for easy install and removal.
