I always love it when you see a car driving around with a 'no mining' sign on it. very funny that its on a car built from mining and running on mining and the sign is made from plastic.

I think all that we are seeing is that the greens and independants have the governments balls in a vice. Its clear from the polls that the governments sway in this direction is hurting them. I dont think it will be long until the whole thing implodes.

There was an article in my local paper today about how the council will have to put its rates up to cover an expected cost increase of $750k due to the carbon tax. They predict this cost due to the cost of street lights, power consumption of their assets and fleet costs.

I think the impact on the economy will be far greater than what they are telling us in what we are paying them to tell us .

Bloody watermelons. Green on the outside - red on the inside...

Anyone remember this bumber sticker: "The only true wilderness is the space between a greenies ears". I think it is now a facebook group.

You bet we downed a few good quality reds and then wiped a 800gram steak. Pretty cheap steak also as we have a glut of cows sitting on the wharf here at the moment!!

It was an interesting lunch particularly to hear local business people openly putting Politics aside and just saying they want to rid Parliment House of both our red haired friend and her green mates.. No mention of Labour or Liberal Governments but just a desire to get rid of the two current controlling groups.

Hell where is Guy Fawkes when we need him.

My Dad says he will not vote as he does not want to encourage them..

Default Joke

Julia is in London visiting Queeen Elizabeth. Julia says to the Queen," How do you run such an efficient country your majesty?" Queen replies, "I keep the minds of my administrators active by asking them to solve riddles. I'll show you what I mean." The Queen pushes a button her desk and gives the instruction to send in David Cameron. The Prime Minister strolls in and the Queen says to him, "David. If your mother has a child and it's not your brother or sister, who is it?" David replies, "Well that would be me your majesty." Julia then returns to Australia, summons Wayne Swan and hits him with the same question, "Wayne. If your mother has a child and it's not your brother or sister, who would it be?" Wayne replies, 'I'll have to seek advice on that before I answer such a difficult question." He leaves the room and calls into the Parliamentary Toilet where he runs into Tony Abbott. "Tony", he says, "If your mother had a child and it was not your brother or sister, who would it be?" "That's easy," says Tony. "It would be me." Wayne runs back to Julia and says, "I know the answer to that question Julia. It would be Tony Abbott." Julia reples, No you idiot. It would be David Cameron."

We are in danger - which ever way we go we seem to get idiots whose only vision is of themselves. Maybe we actually over estimate the important of our governments. Lets get the Mining Council or Newscorp to run the country - they probably do anyway.

All pigs with their snouts in the trough. No common sense in any of them. Absolutely no idea what leadership is or how to do it.
When faced with a basic common sense no brainer, will go the other way without doubt. Its all about minorities, its a shame these political people cant align themselves to some basic principals of Utilitarianism ( greater good for the greater number) and make some decisions in the countries interest.
After what has gone on in the share market in the last week.........how well do you think a new wide ranging Carbon Tax is going to go ???. Not exactly what is needed at this moment.

Love the cartoons !!

Cool Hmmm

Surprise Surprise,
A car forum full of people who cant accept that burning fossil fuels is bad for the environment.

If u want to get your car electrics fixed. Do you vist an Auto electrician or a butcher? The butcher may have an opinion and it may sound good but he/she is not the expert. The experts in climate change (qualified climate scientists) say that global warming is real, it is at least partly caused by humans and we need to do something about it. And YES, none of us will like it because we all have to reduce our standard of living. WHY? Because there are too many people on the planet.

As far as meat goes. With current population growth few people will be able to eat meat on a regular basis due to the fact that there will simply not be enough farm land and feed available to support the cattle etc. England already has to import feed for animals.

I like driving my Cobra and I like eating meat but I accept that in the near future I might not be able to either very often. I dont think blaming a particular political party is helpfull. Scientists and Engineers help design our cars to go fast and we love that. Why cant we accept what the Scientists say about climate change? Forget the politics its all about the Science.

I guess I'm asking for it

Wink

While I can accept your position Cam, I can't accept that any amount of tax dollars raised by ie: "carbon tax" is going to stop the earth's tempreture from rising. It's a pure money grab by the government desguised in the form of a politically corect concept of "saving the planet".

Only a moron would think it's anything else.

They tried to bring in the mining tax, but failled, bc the miners were too strong (read $$$), so they figure they'll try to raise funds by inventing another tax... One that has less opposition

Apologies for the rant.

And all blamed on the US debt ceiling debate. A debate which had no foundation at all.

An American President wanting 3.5 trillion dollars in extra deficit/spending and a congress arguing that would impose too high a debt on the American public.

All just hot air for an ever suffering US public who are being forced to finance the bailouts of the top end of town:

That Gillard Story is pretty much nonsense on most fronts. Written more as a joke I guess. I am surprised she wasn't delivered on a flying saucer, if the rest is true. The Labor Left has gone the way of the Liberal moderates. They are all on various right wing positions these days. Ask the asylum seekers.

But are we in danger? Well, when Rio Tinto just recorded a 7.9 billion HALF year profit, one has to question if they and their foreign investors are paying enough tax, 'carbon' or otherwise.

Interesting comment... however there are loads of real scientists who dispute the opinions of the scientists who believe in the so called global warming.
The science is nowhere near settled, even though the alarmists would have you believe it is 100% fact.

Mick

Hi Mick,

The loads of scientists you refer to are few in number and 99% of the time are not climate scientists. Hence my reference to Auto electrics and butchers.

It reminds me of when I was a kid and the evidence for smoking being a cause of lung cancer was in. People quoted certain doctors or health experts who said that smoking was fine.

Hi Dimis,
I think you might be a little too synical about the tax as they seem to be giving a lot of it back. Unfortunately this government seems to be incompetant and unable to explain its policy's. All the tax has to do is make Green energy (solar, wind, geo thermal etc) the same price as fossil fuel energy. Given the choice (at the same price) most people will choose green energy (maybe as you say I'm a moron, my wife would agree with you)

We dont have to fix the world. Just our bit of it.

I agree with you about the minning tax. It was a great idea and the government got scared and backed down. Its our resources they are selling and I believe we have a right to charge more if they are making more.

I agree that there is such a thing as climate change. For millions of years things have changed, ice age, rises in temperature increase ocean levels etc etc...

The greenhouse effect was invented about 1820 and they noticed CO2 was a factor.

Is the increase in carbon we use causing it? may be.

Will introducing a socialist meathod of wealth distribution fix it - NO.

Giving money to the winnie blue brigade will shut them up and keep these reds in power. It's a sham discguised as a green initiative.

Why should I have to pay these "people" money when I didn't vote for them. Every year there is less and less incentive to improve yourself. I'd take home the same money if I was on 35K with handouts as 100K, "paying my part".

I will continue to eat meat as often as possible and drive both of my V8s because we live in the lucky country - despite what the pollies are trying to do.

If they were serious the UN would take charge and every country would be paying their "carbon tax" to remove the CO2 producing industries throughout the world.

For instance it was reported that China used over 3 billion metric tons of coal last year. So will our 71 billions dollars raised be used to build a bubble over our country to stop their CO2 getting into our atmosphere?
