As I've stated. Too many people on the planet. And it'n not politically correct to talk about that and address it. There is no solution to over population so we choose other scapegoats. Most important in this issue is that the Environmentalists tell us that this is a man made problem and look to an ethereal solution.

BTW, about three billion people on our green earth do not have flushing tiolets. And still chop down trees and burn cowdung to make their meals. I would rather see these billions collected go to building sewer systems.

Our smart greens here have been able to legislate a ban on conventional light bulbs. These pigtail Fluorescent bulbs ALL contain Mercury and billions of them will be disposed of inappropiately. A couple of years ago the topic was that if one of these bulbs broke while switched on mercury vapor will coat everything in close proximity. Solution was to evacuate the area and call in a Haz-Mat team to clean up. What happened? I thought we already faced a Mecury problem in our water.

I see no end in sight to the BS.

I think we can all agree that one day humans will have this planet completely b0rk3d. We just seem to differ in our opinions of how long it will be before that day comes.

I reckon you have summed it all up Modena.

I have recently been working in island regions of north Sulawesi Indonesia, where whole communities are leaving villages they have lived in for generations for higher land, due to ocean rising. For them the sky does seem to be falling in.

However, many Indonesian provinces are well ahead of us with alternative power sources. Many now have hydro everywhere, even micro hydro in small rivers and solar. Our reality will change more slowly.

Smart human species have been moving out of fertile regions of Africa for hundreds of thousands. The most recent and only successful migration happened about 50,000 years ago. Bringing Aborigines to Australia about 49,000 years ago. And eventually spreading the species all over the planet. All due to weather pattern changes. The Ocean then was about 400 feet lower than it is now and in prehistory has also been higher than it is now.

Why do we have the audacity think that during this current lifetime it has to be 72 and sunny every day to please us. We do not live on a static planet. Is it the naiveté' or is it arrogance to think we can stop an ice age.

I wonder if our ancestors whined as much when they had to move to survive.

I wonder too if we have lost that great survival instinct when we encounter another massive ice age. And will it be like New Orleans, on a grander scale and we wait for the great rescue.

Arthur

I'm more worried about the banks than global warming.

I think a lot of this Global Warming hype is just another way to make us spend money.

You must have a new low emissions enviro friendly car etc. Never mind the impact to the environment and resources in manufacturing that new car. Not our problem though since it was probably built somewhere else. In my opinion keeping an old car well tuned and maintained will have a lot less impact on the environment than building a whole new one. Of course there's not a lot of profit in this for anyone and not a lot of extra income for the banks off the money you borrowed to buy the new fangled Toymota.

I've been doing a bit of reading on the history of world banking lately and it's very disturbing.

Mike, After you finish reading about the evolution, the degree of control, and the greed of banks, you should then read how Governments pull the wool over all our eyes.

Notice I said Governments and not polititians because most pollies do not really understand how the economy of a nation with a sovereign currency actually works.

Start here, from a fellow petrol head :
http://moslereconomics.com/wp-conten...oints/7DIF.pdf

Make sure you read the whole thing.

Has anyone heard of a bloke called Dr David Evans ?. He addressed a gathering in Perth on 23rd March. He was the lead climate specialist for 7 years employed by the government. He was on the carbon gravy train and got off because of the bull**** the government is trying to spin.
If i could paste it I would...........its a very interesting read.Its ALL ABOUT REVENUE........yours !

Furthermore, a tax designed by incompetant snapperheads is not the solution, and I agree with Modena, humans will probably stuff the planet one way or another.
Keith Richards said it best " you cant go sucking **** out of the ground and blowing it up in the air". That was before he climbed a palm tree and knocked himself out.

Thumbs down

"Currently, China and India combined emit 20 times as much as Australia each day, and that factor is increasing rapidly," Dr Evans said. "If we reduce our daily emissions by 5 per cent then (China and India) will replace that amount in 216 seconds each day, and even faster by 2020.
Of more than 20 coal power plants believed to be under construction in China, 14 of the biggest have the capacity to emit more carbon annually than Australia intends to reduce.

Developing countries in Asia, excluding India and China, are predicted by the US Energy Information Administration to increase emissions by about 24 per cent.

Australia accounts for about 1.3 per cent of total global emissions....

Not sure..... Does that mean we introduce the tax then China keeps on going at it. They produce, sell to us as we have a carbon tax that effectively puts us out of the manufacturing realm.

Yes makes sense, introduce a tax, put us all out of business and we buy from a country that has no tax. Whoa why didn't I think of it before the Greens and Gillard. ..

Hehehe Bernie, That was very light reading written in everyday language by Warren Mosler, better known to petrol heads as the manufacturer of these:

Mosler Auto

As is known by most economists, that the purpose of taxes, of whatever type (we are discussing carbon here) is to control the spending of the working class.

I don't know if there is a pending crisis with carbon emissions but I have read heaps from both sides of the argument and are non the wiser.

However, if there is a genuine crisis that needs mountains of money thrown at it then there are other ways for that to happen besides introducing another form of tax.

Unfortunately, some of those alternatives will hurt the balance sheets of those with a vested interest, hence the tax.

The difference between a propper scientist and a knob head is that a scientist will change their opinion in the light of superior evidence. A knob head will just ignore the evidence. Please see this link re Dr Evans

Hi Oz Cobra,

Are you sure we account for 1.3% of global emmissions? That sounds way too high. We only have 0.33 % of the worlds population.
