No Fred, I'm all done. It works fine. Getting the right switch and the right knob was the task and that is now cleared up. Thanks for your help.

He is, but the drugs have kicked in, and the therapist is very understanding.

.... and here over in the UK, another bunch of guys are busy organising themselves

Original Dash Knobs - Part 2!

My big mistake was to get tied up with switches.....stick to knobs, worry about switches later.

... and the lesson i learnt was:

- using SPF swicth gear is not what you want (knobs are fine)
- if you want the dash illumination switch, Holdens (UK) stock it, but v expensive;
- for wipers, you can get Lucas NOS or see e-bay. The key point is that the knobs are designed for a hex shaft ie a lucas product, not a half round shaft (standard electronics industry shaft)
- as for needing Off-On-On - very easy - there are simply loads and loads of lucas switches that have this combination and more. Yu just need to get your multimeter out and work out a logic table of which connection switches to what, and then wire accordingly.
- just make sure you buy a switch with a circular , rather than hex bezel if you want to be authentic

Thanks Kevin. It seems that having authentic-style knobs and switches is an objective of many owners in the UK. You have passed the baton.

I am pleased with the switch that I now have. It is a standard electronics industry shaft and I have two knobs coming by post from different places. One has to be perfect! The hex versus round shaft does not worry me as they can usually be drilled and grub screws inserted in needed. I did that with my old MGA one, fitted now.

Default 3 steps forward 2 back - again

Thanks for the wishes Merv.

The leg therapies were going well until Sunday when I started to cut up some carbon fibre for my yacht repairs and decided instead to try and slice off part of a finger.

Got to keep the wound and stiches fairly inactive and dry which means no pool visits for laps and walking - bugga. A minor set back and hope to be out of stiches and in semi real shoes early next week.

Then I can go play with some real power tools - DoH

Took the cobra to Marty Govett's shed a weekend ago and hopefully he can put in some time on jobs he was always going to finalise.

Better chance than I at the moment anyway - Hah!

At least I can drive, not sure if it is legal but what the heck.

Cheers

Steve

At least you can supervise jobs Stephen. It is safer that way. They say the home is the most dangerous place in the world. I had an encounter with a power planer once and almost lost finger. Now, I seem to recall a thread here about injuries sustained while building Cobras ...

Trouble is my injury was whilst doing work for the boat.

However I'm sure a battered myself during the first cobra build though not to the same extent.

Life is just dangerous it seems!!

Slowy, I saw your car down there on Saturday and I was reminded of the movie "U-turn" with Billy Bob Thornton - have you seen it?

Nice Paul

Now what are you trying to say???

Is Marty doing unauthorised repairs - lol

Or you're not calling him hill billy bob are you?

But does this mean it's out of his trailer at least? That would be a good start.

Sorry mate too many directions for me to go with - even on a second viewing and getting a trailer hit.

I must be SLow and I had even already watched it before my first comment.

Better PM me the answer.
