Default Air Bags ADR QLD

Hi guys i know this topic has probably come up before, however I am hearing conflicting reports regarding air bags.
Can anyone tell me if it is true that I may now have to rip out my steering column and dash and install a drivers air bag !!! To stand any chance of getting my vehicle registered and on the road in Queensland by this time next year.
Cheers Damo.

Dont know about QLD but we went through this in NSW a few months ago. The current ADR10 requires testing that has not been conducted on any steering wheels/hubs available in Australia. There is no ADR that requires airbags, but manufacturers can choose to comply with ADR69 with airbags or ADR10 without. As most choose airbags, there is not really any wheels available that have been tested. Hence forcing you to need an airbag cause you cant find a wheel that has been tested.

I contacted all distributors in Australia - momo, autotecnica etc. and none could provide the headform test to comply with ADR 10/02. In the end the RTA were reasonable and granted an exemption with ADR 10/01 acceptable for ICVs in NSW.

G'day Liam,

As you have said ADR 10/02 wheels and columns are not available anywhere in the world and the RTA has supported ADR 10/01 for ICV's, AutotecnicA has provided me with a statement about compliance of a wheel and hub that fits my needs.

Engineer happy and because of arse covering documentation we expect the RTA to be happy too.
