Default Restored Cobras?

I am told that a certain well known Aussie racing identity has finished restoring his two Cobras:

Good onya Mr Carparazzi.
Bowie seems quite the gentleman driving these.
Don't they look clean without the side pipes and rollbars?

Interesting, did you notice the advert for JB's nice Carrera 3.2 in this months Unique Cars?
He certainly must have a fair collection including one of RF's GT40s.
Maybe he needs the cash to pay for the Cobby renos!!
Anyone know what the L/hand drive one is? interesting flares on the guards.

Yes Greg I did see that add. Looked nice.

I undersand he bought these on a recent trip to the States and the Corvette that Peter Brock used to race in the UK.

The grey 427 could be CSX 3150 ? I've a french magazine from June 66 in which this car is described, pictured and test driven by a reporter... Very interesting (but, sorry, it's in french !). I can remark some minor changes since 66 : it seems to have lost its sunburst wheel, golden spinners, and gained a hood scoop ! And was repainted in grey (as far as I know, this car was detailed by the factory and repainted in red for 66 Brussels Auto Show).

Do you know how is the engine by now ? Still double-carbed ?

No idea Bob (love your screen name). As Don says, it is the simplicity of the originals that makes a point: No side pipes, roll hoops and all the stuff we now take as part of the package in Australia. The wire wheels look good too on the 289 earlier model.

Seems me it could be the one, as CSX 3150 is now owned by an Aussie guy, and roadster-like original 427s are not so common, in Oz or anywhere !

See this thread : Little mistery about gold spinners (newbie question)

it is one of the very early cobras, exactly the same guards as carrolls first car csx2000, wire wheels etc, could even be a 260cu inch but more likely a 289, the true ac cars body shape exported to shelby

Another early one - from Trevor Legate's photo collection. It is a pity that we can't seem to get this body shape in Australia. Maybe I am wrong in that however.

those pics are terrific! i love my cobra with my 521" and sidepipes. but i keep having this idea of building another cobra! one without sidepipes - maybe with a new Boss 302 engine to rev up to 8000+ or a direct-injected, twin turbo, 6 cylinder!

need to finish my 66 mustang tho :P

No idea of the number of the slabside, but I doubt that the other car is CSX 3150

See: 1965 Shelby Cobra 427, great history SOLD on Car And Classic UK

The car world is a small place. Those photos and many others came via a Mustang driving neighbour whose company is associated with a certain ex-driver ... and so on.

I also think that these cars are well known in Victoria?

It's in the public domain already (so I'm not stepping on any toes); it's one of John Bowe's sponsors, Joe Calleja - CEO of The Apex Group
From JB's website;
Joe Calleja is the CEO for Apex and like myself is a self confessed car nut. I've know Joe and his delightful wife Liz for a number of years now, they are wonderful people. Joe has a marvelous collection of cars too, from Shelby Mustangs, a Cobra or two and some Italian exotica like Lambo and Ferrari. He also has the very last race car that Peter Brock raced at Goodwood in the UK before his untimely passing. He lets me drive them all to so how lucky am I. Apex have branches in most states and like many, use motorsport and our relationship to involve their customers and staff. I visit their branches and meet their people, they are a very passionate lot who go the extra mile for their customers. I've met a few potential customers recently who after a visit as guests of Apex are now solid customers of Apex - how good is that? Joe and his Apex team are great supporters of JBR. If your in the construction, manufacturing business or just need a shed - Apex are your people, take that from me!

He had both Cobras out at the Shelby Nationals back in October, along with FOUR OTHER Shelby Mustangs!!!

Thanks Craig. That closes the loop for me. My neighbour, form whom the info came to me, has a QLD shed business with Apex.

At any rate, they are terrific cars and of considerable value I would think.

I can not take credit, I simply followed the link supplied by Bitten Bob.

I agree Merv - it's great to see them being driven too.

Imagine owning your own shed manufacturing company and a world class car collection to fill your own sheds up with. Could life be any better?!?
