Interesting Peter. I wonder who bought the Coke Bottle Cobra?
Also thought that Dave in Alice might have liked this one:
Lot 4 - Valiant VC V8 Wayfarer Utility - Classic Vehicle Auctions - Shannons

I think he was the first to own it after it had done the promotion around Australia...
He also owned "my" Black and Yellow Cobra for some years before I bought it.
And NOW.....It looks like he's got his Red Robnell back again ...coming home to Queensland from West Australia.
LOVES his cars.

Was not me. I had an absentee bid in as was away in WA on business for auction night. I was close, but did not think it would go for 54000,
Lot 10 - Snakepit Cobra "427SC Replica" Roadster - Classic Vehicle Auctions - Shannons
noting the last snakepit coke cobra sold for $43000 some years back with lower kays and better condition.
If the new owner is online here...make sure you at least get that diff aligned correctly...it sits an inch and a half over to the passenger side and about an inch further fwd too. The PS trailing arm is two piece and the resection will need realignment to as there was a lot of load on the bush and the driveshaft did not appear to be running true.
Elsewise was a nice little replica that with some TLC under the hood and body will be spot on.

An interesting update. I was contacted by the Auction house this afternoon to see if I was interested in negotiating for this lot at my maximum absentee bid....
Lot 10 - Snakepit Cobra "427SC Replica" Roadster - Classic Vehicle Auctions - Shannons
...as somehow the high bidder can not produce the cash to buy and has eluded the 10 percent deposit (5400 bucks) loss from agreement breach buy using a dodgy credit card...go figure.
I am looking at another one with bank cheque in hand on the weekend..but if not as advertised well..we shall see....funnily enough the next high bidder had bought another cobra in the meantime as well. Got to love people who bid with money they don't have.
With two less than successful auction attempts I am inclined to deal strait up.

I think what they meant to say was; the empty chair and toilet door the auctioneer was taking bids from, in an attempt to reach the reserve price, has not worked!

Yep, get that LOL...apparently the reserve was 40K and I had an absentee bid of 50K.
Frustrating how these systems can go either way though.

I wouldn't believe a single word they said; offer them $40 and negotiate to $45 if you really want it.

I agree. The Coke Bottle Cobras are a piece of Aussie Cobra history and are the only ones I believe that are not ICVs. That provenance may also be worth something in terms of re-sale and inter-state mobility.

I love this one:
Lot 1 - Leyland P76 Sedan - Classic Vehicle Auctions - Shannons
Probably a little closer in shape to an original cobra than the one you missed out on.
Cheers

I understand that some do not feel that the DRB body with its ample booty is as traditional to the original as say the CR, Harrison or even the RMC kits. I don't mind it though but have moved on from the car now as their are too many unanswered questions even with the interstate register-ability appeal of a LVPC, and one of the next options is a Harrison kit.
Nothing wrong the Leyland...if thats what you like. Not my thing but each to their own.
I agree with JD, I though the factory Robnell was LVPC as well. Could be wrong though...but do recall seeing compliance plates as well as build plates on them.

I think you are right John about the Robnell's being low volume. I was just looking at my photos of some of them, and they seem to be. Still pretty rare territory in Australia and that aspect should make them easier to register in each state, I would have thought?

Yes, a lot of Robnell's were low volume complianced. In my opinion the cool ones are the factory low volume complianced big blocks.

One of my favourite $hit stirs ice, but at the end of the day none of the kits mentioned is spot on in shape.
Good luck on the weekend - I like Harrisons alot.

Merv, yes just like that except I like them with the factory Motec multi-throttle body injection.
Had a factory built big block Robnell in the shop last week. I should have taken some photos of it. A one owner example as well. Very nice.
