I am also watching this conversion process with real interest. A great concept..I remember the V8 hilux conversions..but have not seen a Rodeo 4x4 done.

Keep us posted

we did a rodeo l98 and 2 h3 hummers with l98s last year
its silly y they didnt make them factory like that,

yes can make it stand alone where theres afew wires to hook up,
u need to look at what gauges u r going to use
as the 5.4 has no provisions for anything to goto dash
since its all canbus but theres ways around it
email me on
sideshow13@internode.on.net
let me know what model and what gbox and what gauges u plan to run

thanks
jim

Where all friends here jim someone else might get some benifit out of reading this.....
Its a 69 Mach 1 290 Boss with 6 speed tremec going in it... Im going to leave everything on the dash standard.. The gauges... I shoud be able to swap the sender units out of the 351 into the 5.4 I will just need a couple of wires for Amp meter and the tacho...Im thinking I should be able to run nearly all of the original wiring..Just need to power the 290 Boss and thermos and fuel pump
Cheers Mark

Afew questions
Does the tremec have cable speedo provisions

Tacho might need to be modified to suit low voltages square wave pulse

I don't trust amp meters
Most newish alternators can push out more Amps than what the amp meter can handle
So in 20 years of wiring I have never ever hooked one up

U also need to turn of security in ecu

Ash you need cubes in diesel to get up and go about 7.3L and a big turbo I think. Will beat a L98 any time when towing. But sounds intresting will look forward to seeing at some stage.

John,
Yeah I was looking at those beasts.... 3.2 ton empty v 1.8 for the Rodeo
175kw diesel v 270kw for the L98 (i'm not talking torque... i'm gunna lose that one lol)
3150kg towing v 3000kg towing for the Rodeo.....
I couldn't find one under $45,000... that was not 10 years old already.
By the time I finish up and sell off everything it should owe me about $18,000 - $20,000
I can't seem to find anywhere that can quote me a fuel economy figure for the 7.3 turbo diesel.... lol
Not sure what the Rodeo will get in terms of fuel economy.... but towing will prob be better than empty for the big diesel...
Anyways I would love one of those big suckers... just couldn't afford it.
And besides I think for me the fun is in the building.
See you next Friday with my meat on a plate!

Hey Ash, I think the 3.150 tonne tow weight only relates to the full 4 door petrol. The suicide and 2 door like mine is rated to 3.5 tonne. The diesels are rated to 4.5tonne I beleive like Gary's..

I don't like diesels..personal choice...there awesome but I just prefer petrol. Plus I found out the cost of a set of injectors for the 7.3 and ran.....
I get 13l to the 100k on the highway and 18l to the 100k towing my trailer loaded. (about 2.8tonne)

I've ended up engineering mine to be a 3 seater now. Fully compliant and rego'd as a 3 seater. Perfect for me.

Default Surge tank for L98 fuel pump

Have fabricated a surge tank to go inside the Long Range tank I got for the Rodeo. That way I can keep the factory V8 fuel pump assembly. The standard Rodeo fuel pump will feed the surge tank internally.

Still a long ways to go......

Ash mines been modifed on the border of silly and goes like a cut cat on full boost empty or loaded.
Fuel around town 17L per 100ks towing 25L per 100ks 250L tank helps, right foot down always.
As you said you enjoy the builds and good luck to you more people should do what they enjoy.

Post ASH's OZI RAPTOR

Ash, the Ford Raptor probably isn't too far off what I reckon your creating with size, tow capability and power???

Engine types available in a V8 are 5.0L V8 and 6.2L V8. Engine Control System Electronic on both engines. Horsepower is (SAE net@rpm) on the 5.0 is 360 @ 5500 and 411 @ 5500 on the 6.2. Torque (lb.-ft. @rpm) 380 @ 4250 on the 5.0 and 434 @ 4500 on the 6.2. Recommended fuel Unleaded regular on both with fuel economy suggested at 5.0l = 15 city/21 hwy/17 combined mpg (4x2) and 14 city/19 hwy/16 combined mpg (4x4). The 6.2 gets 13 city/18 hwy/ 14 combined mpg (4x2) and 12 city/16 hwy/ 13 combined mpg (4x4, 2011 EPA-estimated). all stats taken form the Ford F150 website. Not sure the quick way of doing a MPG - L/100 comparison??

Great to watch your progress Ash. Making room for the baby seat/s I hope?

Ash - if the urge ever overcame you to fit a turbo to the tow vehicle (purely for the extra economy and torque...!), a guy is selling a couple of sheet metal LS intakes. HUGE DOLLAR items, and the last one went for $400!!!

No reserve and it's at $300 now
Intake Manifold HOGANS Custom STANDARD deck LS1/6 Intake Manifold | eBay

24lb/hr for drving around town. 96lb/hr injectors for when the hairdryer winds up...
Would it fit under the bonnet?

This morning I sold the engine to a local guy that has blown up his Rodeo engine.... and I also sold the gearbox to another guy.... Yeee Haaaaa it's on!
Bonus - The guy, a local earthmoving contractor is going to get his mechanic to remove the engine. I might have it back by Easter.....

Ok time for an update. Motor has been sold and the guy that bought it removed it for me.... even left the gearbox out on the tray. I have fitted the new chevy truck sump and some engine mounts... which should be ok... time will tell.
