Removing protection from visors
I was hoping someone could let me know how to remove the protective paper covering you find on perspex sunvisors and side wings. I bought them about 5-6 years ago and when I went to install them this week the paper comes off in little pieces. By the time I remove the whole lot they'll be scratched all over. Does anyone out there have any ideas on what to do?

Thats what I did...hot soapy dish washing detergent does the trick. If you use a chemical cleaner ensure it is perspex and polycarbonate friendly to avoid discoloration and smearing.
The old steam cleaner works well but the results can also be tacky

If any traces of the glue are left on, try "goo gone" ensure that it will not damage the polycarbonate.

I find a few fingernail scratches are taken care of with a good plastic polish.

Mando lighter fluid or turps will get the paper off.
just leave them in there for about 5 minutes and it will peel off

You need to be careful with acrylic. Any products with acetone or ether (several of the "Goo-off" brands) or even some petroleum based stuff may cloud the the acrylic. If the warm soapy water does not help .... then maybe.

I found if you remove the screws from the visor's you can carefully use a razorblade at the holes and it came off easy, but I did soak them in hot water for 20 minutes first

mando if all else fails try glass cleaner sparingly
we use it on all old perspex to remove the paper if you do scratch it we use glass polish & a soft cloth
note ;;;if using recycled rags check for staples i found out the hard way

We own / run a business that works with acrylic and some polycarbonate. Acrylic can be cleaned with any of the thinners / gunwash / type of cleaner. We use a spraypainting 'gunwash' to remove any of that sort of stuff. Soak the paper with tissues soaked in gunwash or thinners and slowly rub it off. Don't rub too hard or you will scratch the acrylic. If you have any problems and scratch it too badly send me a PM and I will help you out.
Be very careful with Polycarbonate as it will turn a milky white colour the moment you use any type of gunwash etc cleaning agent on it. Warm soapy water to clean works fine.

DO NOT try to clean acrylic (perspex) with metho or alcohol products -- it will craze

I had a similar problem when I finally went to fit mine. I scratched the Perspex and my window friend made them in glass for me at very little cost.

Tomcat, can you remember where you bought them from? I've seen them before with the cobra emblem and they look great. By the way the red on your car looks amazing and Merv's right, the guard covers are the best I've seen, who made them for you?

Hi Mando and Merv, After a bit of searching the glass wings are available from finishline for us $110 but i dont think they have the logo on them, the original 289 and 427 cars had plexiglass wings with the word cobra etched on them. I like the glass ones they just look quality, most of the replica acrylic ones ive seen just look rubbish to me. My spats were made by Paul from unique trimming in mackay as well he redid my interior in black and he stiched me up a really taut tonneau cover, i cant fault his work he has just got a good eye for how something should look and work unlike some expert trimmers work ive seen, he also made me a car bra that fits like a glove for when i tow her on long trips, and thats no easy feat fitting one to the nose of a cobra.
