Geof

No probs with the fuel rails, they sit lower than the throttle body flange.

Still running the A9L with Petes' chip after he did the Trickflow head work for me.

I got the intake, MAF, throttle body and fuel rails from massflo.

Greg

Same for me. The chip was fine and can be tweaked on "Quarterhorse" Peter says. I find the standard EEC just fine and have two spares set aside if need be. Cheap and flexible. Why move the TFI away from the distributor, if it is all new?

Merv

this is what got me going on the TFI...........

[quote][Since your just installing the system, let me recommend an alteration. Mass Flow uses all Ford stuff, except the MAF. The TFI module is mounted on the distributor, as Ford did on most models. There were lot of temp break down issues with the TFI, and I believe Ford lost a law suit on this.

I have fought the problem with my Cobra. The TFI only lasts about a year. When the engine is turned off all the header heat under the hood works it way to the scoop and exits. This funnels super high temps right past the TFI. If you start it back up in 20-40 minutes after shutting it off, it will miss-fire to beat the band.

I am now in the process of moving the TFI to a heat sink on the fender. Ford did this on Cougars and Aero Star vans. I just got a heat sink at my local junk yard for $10. If your interested let me know. I can send you some links to more information, or just Google Ford TFI Modual./QUOTE]

I've already replaced one of them!

Yes Greg I saw that. I have had no probs so far and haven't heard of other Ford owners having any. But you have obviously. What does Peter suggest?

hey byron
make sure u use silicone heat transfer grease between the
tfi module and the heatsink
greatly helps dissipate heat

There could be ones, like this, that suit your engine and harness Greg.

FORD MOTORCRAFT REMOTE IGNITION MODULE TFI THUNDERBIRD | eBay

or

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

or maybe even better:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

There are different TFIs of course:

I checked mine after a reasonable run and it was warm but not hot.

Be aware that the shielding is fairly sophisticated. I decided to take my wire harness apart (just removing tape), so that I can re-route my harness to the new location on the fender-well. Then I will run new shielded wire from the distributor to the re-located TFI. Then I'll tape it back up and put it back into the wire loom (or what ever the plastic corrugated tubing with a slit in it is called).
MUSTANG BRONCO TFI RELOCATION MODULE REMOTE KIT Turbo SVO 5.0L 5.8L SUPERCHARGER | eBay

I am running this on my car at the moment, solved the problem with the TFI.
Also are you running the Mass Flo distributor? Reason being they are shorter and give more clearance for the aircleaner. They get them specially made by Mallory, haven't had a problem with mine since I put it all in. Had problems with A9L computer trying to put a lot of (470rwhp) horsepower to the ground. I have since installed an Autronic, even works with the Mass flo TFI distributor and relocated tfi module. Now revs to 7k no worries.

My relocation kit seems to work well. I also have the Mallory distributor. I have nothing like that HP so the A9L works fine to 6000 (occasionally)
