Default Harrison brake test in Vic

The engineer is paying a visit tomorrow and he mentioned that VicRoads may ask for evidence of a full brake test for the Harrison. The requirements in QLD are significantly less (simple gauge on the floor test) so Warwick is unable to supply an engineer's report.

Just wondering whether the recently registered cars (TL, stumpeater, Pecal) were required to do the test or better still, any stories of how you dealt with this request from VicRoads?

It's not a killer having to do the test at Moorabbin airport but if there's already a precedent for this kit, I'd like to explore that option first.

Thanks

Bernie, from Enkelman's did it as part of my engineering process. Only part where the brakes were mentioned was that the front were VT - ABS brakes and the rear axle, suspensiona nd brakes were sourced from an 02 Mustang
On the bottom line it states 'brake, noise and road test were performed with satisfactory results'.
Bernie did say that they stopped quite well when I was there with another vehicle shortly after.

Thanks TL, sounds like the full blown test may not be required - or only at VicRoads discretion.

I have non-ABS VZ front and R33 Skyline rear brakes with upgraded pads and it pulls up very well. No question about brake performance, so it's a formality as far as I'm concerned - unlike that IM240 as you and I know all too well.

T.L., have you installed the ABS module, or are you just running ABS hubs with no ABS functionality?

From memory the whole abs/traction control thing should be going.
I had to get the reluctor wheels on the back axle and get a correct ABS unit from a VE Omega or something like that as there was ABS with stability control and ABS with stability control and hot and cold running water, and ABS with XYZ.......... The Omega was a unit that only had ABS/Trac that suited my application, from memory that is. It was 2 years ago when I hunted around for these parts.
The traction control can be switched off, there's a button on the dash somewhere, like in normal commodores etc..... so if I want to do some skids on my driveway, as its a closed road, then I should be able to. Got trac as with the amount of power that will be there I thought it might be handy to have.
I stand to be corrected if thats not the case as I haven't driven it much, its currently at the trimmers, then needs final tune.....

Default Hi Sambo

When Bernie did mine he had a magic box strapped to the passenger seat and a sensor held on the brake pedal with rubber bands, he took it to somewhere not far away as he was only gone for half an hour or so. I wanted to go with him but he said he does it on his own as he gets pretty serious with the panic stop. My basic commodore/R33 combination were fine.

Yes I remember the same device when Bernie left with my car.

When it gets back on the road I will be keen to see if the slight tweak I made has helped, as Bernie's opinion was that it could stop better, though it did pass the test.

I changed over the crack valve in the master cylinder to better spread the braking load.

Don't think the rules have changed so you should be fine Paul, particularly if Bernie concurs with you on the car's stopping capability and he has reviewed and is satisfied with your braking components.

Good luck regardless.

Steve

Thanks guys. I'm using a different engineer and it looks like we need to hire the minimum 3 hour block at Moorabbin airport. Might be an opportunity to share the time around if there are others who need to do any testing.
