Default Maclean's Bridge at Lakeside Raceway QLD 19-20th May

Maclean's Bridge at Lakeside is the major sports and classic car festival in Queensland.

The chairman Neville Smith, has really taken an interest in replicas and kit cars. This year Neville is launching the inaugural Concours de Facsmile, a special Concours for replica and recreated classics.

Saturday is track day with some of the local Cobra guys (Ash, Gary, Mick, Geoff) competing in the regularity events.

Sunday is main show day with laps of the circuit mid-afternoon onwards. The Cobra's, GT40's etc have their own display area.

This is a fantastic event now with the move to Lakeside Raceway. Really appreciate having another event up here that puts the focus onto Cobra replicas.

For more information see this link:

Macleans Bridge Website

Hope to see you out there...

Craig, I was just reading their website.... It's a pretty massive event isn't it!
The interclub events on the Saturday were booked out since November 2011 with a waiting list! Popular or what.

Sadly the Auction has been cancelled due to not enough "quality" stock.

Regarding the booking of a place to park. Do we do that as individuals or has the club booked for a group and how many will fit/who's going etc? Last year Alan B was organising it all from early on but haven't seen anything on it this year...

I'll see if Gary @ BDM is going and get advice off him as if its a goer we'll need places to park trucks and trailers etc. I did an 18 hour day on the old girl on Saturday (thanks Scotty) and am seeing if I can wangle a run up tot he event for its first and last ever show and shine!!! Lol

The "Club" didn't book a group spot...

The interest was pretty low, not because it wasn't a great event...but the club had their monthly breakfast meeting there only a few weeks ago...

.....and getting them back out there again so soon after...was proving a little difficult.

We didn't really want to be having to pay for the "group", and then only get a few Cobras wanting to turn up.

Individual entries were always how we went to this event in previous years...and I'd say that there would be room to park with the GT40 group.

Have a Great day.

Cheers,
Warren.

They have an area put aside for Cobra's & GT40's. There will be plenty of space to park as they would be expecting the numbers from last year or more.

I'm still expecting a good turn out if the weather is good as it is a great event.

Craig, perhaps send out a group email to let people know? I spoke to Super Mario on Saturday and he didn't know it was on?? There may be others out there who don't know either. Maybe, next year with you being a primary representative/supplier of Australian Kit Cars, you may need to take the bull by the horns to promote this one within the Cobra community?

The Cobra Club entry for the regularity on Saturday has had to withdraw. Gary Hall had the entry and has had to withdraw due to family matters. Group was myself, Gary Hall, Geoff Taunton and Mick Warnock.

You are a funny guy. This will require someone that has some time on their hands, which I can't see being me for the near future.

I am thinking about pinching Dad's Cobra to head out there on Sunday. The entry form for replicas states that they are capping entries at a maximum of 20.
http://www.macleansbridge.com/images...pplication.pdf
Considering that pre-entries were being accepted over a month ago, and this category will probably also include C-Type and D-Type Jags, are we likely to be shunted to the boonies? If we'd be relegated to the car park, I'll take the tintop.

Craig, the limit is just for the actual concourse.

The kit car concourse is an additional category that is new this year and designed to attract higher end kit cars and their owners, which I know it is certainly doing.

All other cars will be in the normal show, if that makes sense. So all the Cobra's going will be together.

I even have a map of the space allocation for Cobra's, GT40's etc.

So all good, bring the old girl for a great day out. If you hang around you can even do some laps of the track in the arvo.

Sounds like a plan then. Dad - if you're reading this, can I borrow your car?!? I feel like a P-Plate driving teenager by asking this...

As far as track laps, it was great to do some laps a couple of weeks ago. Dad gave it heaps down the main straight at the same time that Towie hit the throttle. I was in the passenger seat of the old Arntz and the blue weapon left us behind at such a rate that it felt like we were going in reverse...!

Don,
Are you coming to play at the Shannon's muscle car or the Nationals this year?

2 great events not to be missed!

Ash I agree they're two terrific events and I would urge any Queenslanders who have not yet been to the Nationals to make every effort to get there this year. The iffy weather is more than compensated for by the on-track action and the nightly shenanigans. And how good will it be to be there for the trophy presentation evening this year when Wazza sticks it to the cockies with the mighty Maroons having trounced the unbelievers for a seventh straight time!!!

The stop-off at the Bellingen motel on the way home, hopefully this year with the King and Queen Cobra trophies firmly tucked into Queensland luggage where they belong, is the perfect icing on the cake for what is always an unforgettable few days.

As a personal thought, and with no original or continuation Cobras likely to be in attendance, I think it would be fitting for one of Craig White's Absolute Pace/Kirkhams to do a tribute lap in honour of the late Carroll Shelby, without whom all of our lives would have been so different. With silence in the pits, the sound of a lone alloy-bodied big block Cobra circulating around Wakefield Park in memory of the great man would bring a lump to anybody's throat.

Unfortunately going to Goodwood has drained my fun money for the rest of the year. It's been on my bucket list since long before the term "bucket list" was coined and I know it will be worth any temporary financial impoverishment. So I won't be able to get to the Nationals but I'll be at Shannons as a spectator.

And Spook, keep that free beer for next year OK?

Don, an outstanding idea on the driveby idea at the Nats.. Without stealing Craigs thunder perhaps Phil Mizzi might be able to tee up a driveby of one of the 2 Calejha (Spell) original cobras?? They're in Vic or NSW??? Perhaps his mate John Bowe might drive it for him and JB can be the Patron for the event??????

Ideas ideas........

I also know someone in NSW that owns an alloy Shelby continuation cobra. That would be a fine tribute to the man. We can ask around and see if a generous soul will grace us with a genuine Shelby. We also have the 50th year celebrations to incorporate as well.

A "Tribute Lap" to mark the passing of Carroll Shelby sounds like something we should do...

But maybe ALL the Cobras and GT40s might like to take part...

I appreciate the idea of the Aluminium ( Aluminum )body Cobra being something that is a reminder of an original Cobra, but I recon we all honor his legacy with our efforts to replicate the awesome machines that he created.

We all feel like we are part of something pretty special, once we've become part of the "Shelby" gang.

I think every Cobra and GT40 owner or enthusiast felt something very personal , when they heard that Carroll Shelby had passed.

It was like a member of our family had passed on....pulled me up, and made me think about everything this man had started.

A Pretty Cool life.

Anyway....I'd be happy with anything we do....it's a special year that's for sure....50 years since all this started with a bang....and then he says farewell.......a cool way to go !

Not looking for an argument....just my thoughts.

Cheers,
Warren.
