The GT40, my first 66 Mustang Coupe and Anne's last little black Merc.

The coupe went to a well known (world champion) bike rider and Anne's little black Merc frightened her one day..

I sold the 65 Mustang convertible a few months back to a South Australian guy who will take it to the next level of concourse in time, as I wasn't interested in spending the time to concourse it. Big mistake I think now whenever the sun is out..

No regrets about selling the Cobra - I will get another one soon enough. Wouldn't it be nice to get another Healey in the family for old times sake...

I have a regret about a car that I wish you bought back in the day...

My second car, I was 18 and found a rough but original and complete LJ XU-1, $3,100- changed hands ....... had it for a few weeks and couldnt affort to run it whilst at school and a part time job. Proberly just needed to be set up right... anyway I swaped it for a RS Escort which I later sold for $4,400- ... So I thought that I was an awesome dealer. That XU-1 would now pay off my mortgage.

Car I regret not buying, I was working for a vehicle finance company and we had a client hand in a car as they could not afford it. The deal was we could buy any cars for the payout figure. I was 19 and didnt have enough cash but in 1989 this car that came in was a 1987 Brock Group A, 17,000 k's and owed $16,000-, someone got a bargin there.

One I missed...a 69 Mach 1 302 Boss Mustang fastback. It was COMPLETELY dismantled. Just a pile of parts and nuts and bolts. Even the engine. $14 grand back in 1980. I had no where to put it and I still think about it. The one I sold was a Datsun 1600 import. Pretty rare and went like stink. I crashed and repaired it so many times the front panel metal was fatigued (kept cracking) so I sold the problem. It was a tinny little jap car but what an engine. The car was so forgiving....I should have been dead, many times.

My very first car that my dad gve me. A 1962 Jaguar MK2,the wood, the leather, the great looks and that fabulous twin cam six. But the one I always think about was my dad's 1978 Saab 99 turbo. I got it when he passed away. I drove it for 385.000 miles and it still ran great when I traded it.Loved the quirk of Saab and always made me think of my dad. Looking for one now, anybody got one for sale?

Mine would be a '69 Cooper S that I paid $1100 for.
After that an LC 2 door fake GTR that cost me $1500.

My Dad is still kicking himself selling his 71 Fazza 246GT Dino in '73. Sold it and bought a house for cash so probably a good deal. You can sleep in a car but can't race a house!

Default Ts50

Great thread Mike,
The T series cars were fantastic and totallly underrated for the time, they suffered from being an au model but in the t series a lot of people didnt know that, i can say that because i owned one, a series 1 TS50 220 kw, no 31 out of only 52 built, not the later stroker windsor, they hadnt been built yet.
Years ago i spoke to one of the engineers at koni who put the suspension package together with ford and he told me it was the best handling setup that they had ever produced on an australian performance car to that date, they were very proud of it, miles ahead of the commodore.
The independent rear end on the t series cars was world class but very expensive to produce, so ford changed it to a cheaper version when they built the BA.
Your pursuit 250 ute would have the live rear axle, hows the front end now youve done it up.
That TS50 had enough grunt for the time but its handling is what made it standout, much to the dismay of the hsv boys who either couldnt catch it or the look on their face when i passed them in a ford which was not supposed to happen.
That video you posted was interesting, i havnt seen it before, the part where the engine builder sticks his signature to the engine, that guy BANDULA in the video is the same guy that built my engine.
As the story in your thread goes, i sold it a few years ago, i owned it outright but owned a few cars and wasent driving it enough so let it go, i probably should have deregistered it, put it in a corner of the garage and threw a tarp over it.
Great to see you went out and bought the same car again because you missed it, not many people do that.
Thanks for the memories Mike.

You bet Bernie

I am getting a few things done to her before the move to WA plus it is much easier to get it registered there than in SA so will have more sunny day driving to come!

Mine was a LS Monaro, had great plans for it until it was pinched and I was too stupid back then to have proper insurance and never saw it again!

Hi Tomcat,

I really like the T series cars. I'd love to own a T3 TS50 or TE50 which was the last and some say best of the bunch. I only wish they had retained the nice alloy heads the the earlier T series cars got.

With the front end rebuilt the handling is transformed. It's surprisingly tight and precise through the corners. I've really been enjoying chucking it through the twisties on the way home from work. It handles amazingly well for something that has leaf springs and a live axle in the back.

They got pretty good write ups and praise for their handling when they came out:

Some great cars in the list. That mclaren is definitely one I would love to have. I wonder what it's worth now?

Cheers

Don't know Mike -- think of a number and keep adding noughts I suppose.
It was one of the most interesting cars I ever had anything to do with. The Phil Irving 5 litre Repco was a thing of beauty and the sound it made going over the hill at Amaroo or under the bridge at Surfers was the stuff of dreams.

I only got to drive it around the pits or, as in the photo, from the trailer to the garage via the hibiscus chicane!! But it sure was a fun old car.

Great thread topic Mike.

My biggest regret was my mother selling my old man's genuine F350 duallie. We bought it new and it pulled a 30 foot caravan around the east coast when we were kids on holidays and I used to keep a look out for bushrangers as we drove through the hills.

The old man was killed in a trucking accident in the early 90's and while I was "sent away" for a while my mum sold alot of his stuff. She practically gave this truck away and I was devo'd when I finally got let out and came home all I could do was watch it drive away. I really miss that truck. 4 speed 351w no air, no steer but it pulled like a rhino. (And yep, she gave the boat away too!)

Hi Mike,
Yes the series 3 cars are definately more collectable because of the windsor stroker, but the series 1 car i owned in TS50 came with the Full FRUIT.
Ford were battling for performance bragging rights back in 98/99 against hsv, so when they released the T series range, ford put everything into it and produced a great car with every box ticked, the downside to that is they were expensive, [ around $77.000 on road at the time] to compete against the holden grange, so they didnt sell enough.

Consequently the series 2 and 3 cars were defruited to make them cheaper and the extras were made as options, hense the alloy heads on my car, then back to iron heads for cost savings.

Interesting with the big front rotors as well, mine were shot after about 22000ks as well, and i replaced them, ford fitted to hard a pad and wore out the rotors instead of the pads. [ but they sure worked well ]

A mate of mine in mackay bought a series 3 TS50 new and still owns it, [ we owned the only 2 T series cars in the whole mackay bowen basin region ] hes also got a saleen mustang and has ordered a new shelby mustang 800hp super snake to add to his impressive collection of several cars.

The rarest of them all is the series 3 fairlane based TL50 stroker, ford only ever made 2 of them, so i think they will be worth a few bob in the future.

cheers

It is easy to look back and say should have not sold that car but the one i really regret is a very tidy HT gts monaro . it was a sweet ride .

What about cars we should have bought when given the chance like a mint A9X torana. .

My regrets;
65 GTO, I got in High School
68 Cevelle SS 396
68 Yenko Camero
The Yenko was my biggest regret, I bought it when I was 19, got
the bank loan myself, it was bought new in Cocoa Beach Fl, I bought it
from the original owner a few months after he purchased it. A long story
made short, I still have 2 Yenko emblems that were on the front fenders.
They are probably worth more than what I sold the car for in the 1972.
