Yep, but just not club rego for replicas.

JD, I reckon looking at a few 2nd hand cobra's will help you either way. You will either find a 2nd hand car that you like for the right money or it will convince you that building is the right path for you.

That one on eBay was an absolute steal at $37k. Really shows how bad the market is.

Thanks, I missed that one. I'll give him a ring tommorrow. I've looked up cr kobra. Just the parts would be up to 30.000. Are they a good kit, I haven't heard it mentioned before. What would it cost to truck to SA?

There are many CR Cobra's on this forum, including 2 Street Machine magazine cars, SummerNats prize winning cars etc.
Current King Cobra from Nationals is CR

And yep, I too have a CR.

I really do think you should look at an extended body car as well, such as a Harrison. How many Cobras have you sat in?

I'm talking to the half built kit in penrith. Thanks AC 460. Engineering is looking at the possibility to get the 351 into it. It was a 2001 kit, so square chassis. The rear end is a independent BA. So you can't put deep dish mags on it. Bummer. According to the CR site, they will fit up to 6"4' But I'll have to ring CR to see if the early kits were the same. I've sat in some extended cobras, but the problem has been with the chassis behind the seat, not allowing it to go back far enough, There is still a few inches to the shell. With a bit of work, I don't think it'll be a problem, Thinner seats, dropped floor, auto. Has anyone built a tilt front end?

Rear is actually AU falcon. A few have built custom arms\driveshafts to get more rear dish. There are a few Classic revivals in SA. I believe the body changed little from square tube to round tube chassis, apart from the rear bulkhead coming down more square. With the incline on your seats I dont think this makes a lot of difference to legroom. CR has one of the roomier cockpits anyway. There are some pretty tall guys with CR's.
CR are widely considered to be one of the best kits out there. Think about the auto though - less desirable IMO if you ever want to sell. Dont worry about tilt front - be a hassle and its already painted.

Cheers

Default Kenmer

Jaydee, one kit that hasn't been mentioned is Kenmer, here in Melbourne. Martin Govert (owner) is helping finish my Harrison. He's a highly experienced fabricator and he works closely with the engineers so you get the right advice (whether or not you take it!) and the best chance of getting through engineering. He has one of the better looking Cobra bodies and the kit is delivered with all brackets and mounts are in place, ready for everything to bolt up.

Kenmer Engineering

The website is a bit out of date, as he now offers custom suspension with plenty of wheel/diff/brake options. He can can fit everything from LS to Coyote engines, power steering, ABS brakes, etc. If you're still considering a local kit, I'd definitely be checking out the Kenmer offering.

Best of luck!

Paul

Thanks guys. Talked to CR and there is no chassis rail behind the seat, so you can move the seat all the way back to the firewall. I'm 90% sure I'll go for the CR kit. Not my favorite color, but some black striping will set it out.
JD.
P.S.
Tenrocca, can the au rear end be shortened to accept deep dish?

For the price i wouldnt care about deep dish. That is a reallly good buy. You may be able to select a style of wheel that looks good without the dish.

Easy for me to say my dish is 6.5" deep
