looks great Baz! Did you have a stock tune before this, and do you have a "before" dyno graph?

No Ben this is the first engine tune and I don't have a before Dyno graph, but its simply purring now. Was running really rich before.

agreed Sam knows what he is doing, but Baz are you saying there was no before run, or just that you didn't get a graph from it?

Sam is in his new premises and has his roller dyno in a sound proof, ventilated and enclosed room which looks like a huge spray booth. Apparently, the car was so far out of tune prior to strapping it to the dyno that he had to bring the tune up to the mark on his computer through the ECU. I don't think he ran it on the dyno until he was sure that he had everything correct on his laptop. I couldn't see him as the booth is enclosed. I only heard it revving to about 7000 rpm twice and that was towards the end of the session, so I think there was no 'before' runs done.

quite probably. Places like Sams have been tuning LSx's for long enough that they can load up an existing tune that will be 95%, especially if you have stock internals, and then just tweek it to suit your specific donk.

That's right Ben, but it's not exactly stock internally. I just had a Comp XER273HR-14 Roller Cam with double Crane springs etc., installed. I just supplied Sam with the cam specs and he did the rest. That's why I've waited for nearly 12 months before going to the dyno.

No. The MAF is still there and running as far as I know. He only charged me the $800 for the tune with no parts. If I had gone Mafless, there would have been additional items on the account****.

No extras for Mafless Baz.
But I don't think there are many power gains to be had from going Mafless, unless your chasing every last pony and needing a larger air intake.

I have a LS3 in my HSV which has a Maf Tune, Air Box and Full 3" Exhaust System, 300kW @ the wheels. Lots of good tuners out there are getting great numbers from the LS engines.

Yep Stock, just the bolt on mods. I have been thinking about heavier valve springs and maybe a cam upgrade.

Dave,
If the MAf was removed, I would need a MAP Sensor to be fitted in lieu. That was the additional part I referred to, but I don't think it was worth all the drama.

The motor uses both a MAP and MAF sensor. The MAP sensor is located behind the throttle body on the drivers side.
I agree, there would be very little performance gain.

Hi Baz, how are you finding you new cam? I have the XER 281 in mine and love it!
Did you fit a stall converter?

Baz, they are great numbers.
Better off in the long term retaining the MAF.
Thanks for sharing.
