Yes I think it is below 8Kph the ECU allows Reverse to be selected.

no the ecu reads speed signal from sensor then
controls the reverse lockup silenoid

Yes, thats what i meant.

Do you know how critical the correct signal is if you are not using the factory gauge? Im wondering if i just put the 4 pulse sensor in from dakota and hook that up it will tell the ecm if the car is moving or not, it will just think the car is going a 1/4 of what the speed is.

My gauge will work with the 4 pulse.

U can sort of retune speed pulse signals in the ecu
Then u have the output signal from ecu drive yr speedo

Having one sensor drive the engine ecu and speedo can have slight issues and one might drop out at high speeds
Just depends how strong the signal is
It's one of those try it and see
I've had guys think about using abs sensor to run abs and signal to ecu
I say not sure what will happen just try it and see if the abs has errors come up

Seems i was over complicating this. I spoke to Mal Woods today and they are providing me with the part required to intall a VSS on the gearbox. Cost is similar to the JTR wheel and pick up.

I didnt want to modify the housing cause i just painted it but looking at it its not going to affect the paint if i am careful.

do u still need to drill the hole to slide sensor in
or does this go on outside of gbox

im converting a vz ls2 hsv harness from auto to manual at moment
he bought a magnum t56 from mal woods i think
they have both a cable speedo drive and an electronic sensor too
good when fitting these to older cars where u need cable to speedo
and electric signal to ecu

yes, will require the hole to be drilled out. will be just same as standard t56. not a hard job though by the look of it.
