M10 T56 Speed sensor
Might be a question for Sideshow.
I have just discovered that the gear box i have has no VSS on it. It only has reverse solonoid and reverse light switch.
Box is off a VE SS. Did they have a speed sensor on the diff? Any easy solution for a bolt on application that will work with the e38?

What box is it? If its from a VE it should be a 6060, not a T56....

No, the tr6060 was in the hsv, ss used t56 but it looks the same as tr6060 with remote shifter. It was apparently a stronger version than the standard t56, not that strength appears to be an issue.

Hi there,
I recently reworked a T56 ex VX commodore the trans has a sensor on the side. It works from the gear cog on the output shaft.
If you send through details i will email you photos
Regards,
Pete

Gday Pete,
I know where the sensor should be as the casting is there for it but it is not drilled out. Im not sure if the tone wheel would still be on the output shaft.
There are some aftermarket options i have found, dakota digital have one that mounts to the side of the driveshaft and then you stick 4 magnets on. This wouldnt work with my ECM as it is 4k, there is another one available that mounts to the diff input yoke. Im thinking this may be my best option as i dont really want to take the gearbox apart and machine out the housing now that it is painted.
Im sure im not the first to come across this. Either i am really missing something or others have had this problem.

Very late ve commodores have no speedo sensor
It gets it's speed signal from ecu
So u need to change back housing and sort out reluctor ring on output shaft
Or get something to bolt to yr tailshaft with 17 pulse ring
Then u need to get ecu reprogrammed to suit the sensor on box

We fit the speed sensor wires in the looms even though they don't haves sensor
Just incase they want to run them off abs wheel ring and sensor
Then u reprogram ecu to suit

I see, so does the ve use the abs wheel speed sensors for the vehicle speed?
I am thinking something like this might do the trick.
http://www.jagsthatrun.com/v8-s10-in...fferential.pdf
or this.
http://www.dakotadigital.com/PDF/SEN-4165.PDF
Can the ECM be programmed for any signal or does it have to be 17 pulse. I thought the standard was 40 pulse?

That jags that run shop is good
Get a lot of stuff of them
That wil work
Then u just need ecu reprogrammed to get speed right

Does the actual speed matter? I am using a speed hut gauge that will work with any sensor so i just need to keep the computer happy. Does accuracy for the ecm matter?
I am thinking that the functions of the ecm that are based on vss output really just need to know if the car is decelerating, sitting still or travelling

dakota emailed me overnight and suggested using 40tooth wheel from jtr and then using their signal convertor to halve it. That would give me 20 pulse for the ecm which is probably near enough to work the functions and not get an error code.

U don't really need speed signal into ecu
It's just for fine tuning the cruising speeds mixtures
U just need a sensor somewhere to suit your speedo
If u do want to run it to ecu just cut every second lug of the 40 pulse ring
Saves buying the Dakota unit

I forgot to say the late model cars get speed signal thru canbus
The abs ecu sends the speed signal to rest of the ecus

Im actually thinking i could just cut my own wheel with 17teeth and use a gm sensor. Mount the wheel on the diff pinion of the jag rear.
I read that it needs vss for evap solenoid and fuel cut off when decelerating for economy.

Doesnt it also use the speed sensor for the reversing solenoid?

I pulled the solenoid out and put a spring in works great.

So are we saying that the reverse solonide incorporates a speed sensor? That will make life very easy if it does.

Ah, i see what you are saying, the vss tells the solonoid when to disengage.
