Default Best small alternator for classic chassis with ls2 motor

Hi
Being doing work on customers classic cobra and he wants to know
What is best small alternator for the ls2/l76 setup
As the Holden alternator doesn't fit

I have been told in the past to look for tarago one
Which fits and easiest to mount

Thanks

I saw some tiny alternators on a couple of Drag racing VWs they were 40 amp and when I researched they were off a Kubota fork lift..tidy little piece of gear.. google kubota 65-8361.

I picked up a small one from a jap car wrecker it's about 2/3 the size of the original. They had a couple of 44 gallon drums full of alternators and said go for it. I just hunted through till I found one I liked.

Just made my own mounts and machined a new pulley to suit the 6 rib belt.

Cheers

Mitsubishi alternators are universally used on many Asian import cars and have been adopted by the Sprint Cup builders.

Mike, do you know what the length of your alt is? I have been looking for one to go in front of the head, but the pulley system on ls3 is closer to the block than ls1.

i would say around 70 amps
most jap import cars are 65 to 75 amps
i was trying to see which is easiest to fit for the customer
i wont be fitting it as i dont have machining tools

lsx alternators can pump up to 120 140 amps so they are great
just dont fit some bodies

i might have to get in touch with beejay as i can remember exactly which alternator he used when i wired his but tarago rings a bell

I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla Alternator in my LS2 and it works fine. Just had to make up a modified engine mounting bracket.

Diahatsu Charade -- I think, is the smallest I could find, 65A on a Ls6 (T70) --- runs - fuel pump, msd, twin electric fans and brake light, anything left goes to the battery

Jim,

Pretty sure mine is a supercharged V6 Holden alternator.

Cheers,
Ben

I didn't have enough room down low to fit the alternator due to rails, so I have rolled the alternator upwards off the pivot bolt and made a top bracket to hold it. All this in the standard bracket which I cut one lower leg off.
The alternator is no smaller but it lifted it to an area with some room, is this an option?

Cool
Thanks for the ideas
I went out today to fit engine harness and start making body harness
So while I was there we cut the inner guard fibreglass and rolled the alernator
Up and it should all be good
Now to sit down and make the body harness on my garage floor heheh
