For $2900 I figured I would only be saving a few Hundred dollars for what would probably take me many hours to make.
Where as I make $90 per hour swinging spanners.

I have a friend who has also bought a trailer from them (box trailer) he is going through Melbourne late December and will pick them up on his way through.

nice place the mount i have bounced off the wall at the speedway down there more than once freezing cold place in the middle of winter ,,not a bad place to retire tho .

Another "project" I will be working on later this year, the Pacer coupe I found at Aileron Station is going to be semi restored.
In so far as I have permission to get it on club rego with bullet holes in place.
So plan is that I will straighten the rear C pillar out so I can make the rear screen fit properly, then I will assemble the car into a driver using as many second hand parts as I can muster.
This is the car in question when it was in the Australian Muscle car Magazine.

I have a dash cluster to fit.


Correct prefix number engine and gearbox. With correct intake and exhaust manifolds, carby, rocker cover and air filter housing.


The bonnet.


A pair of doors I bought and am letting them "weather"


Weathered grille and headlight surrounds.


Right front guard I bought a couple of weeks ago.


And here is my complete donor car for glass and other bits and pieces as needed.

Always a good read here! Where did you do the course? TAFE used to offer beginner courses in all sorts of fields (machining, welding, fabrication) but seem to have left this to private providers of late.

Course was held at Springfield, as you say there are no more TAFE.
Apparently the schools in the area decided they needed a place to teach trade skills, so they all pooled together and built a place, and fitted it out.
They use it through the week, and the fellas doing the course use it on weekends.

Had a big weekend in the shed. Now I am no builder, and always doubt myself when doing house building type things.
With planned holidays at start of March and having to do a fair bit of stuff between now and then, I could not wait any longer for it to cool down.
Luckily it was rainy most of the weekend so that kept temps down and with fan blowing it cooled enough for me not to die.
I finally got my half mezzanine done and got all my larger items up and off the floor.
Following are some pics from the weekend.

12 tonne rated pallet racking each section.
There is lucky to be 1 tonne in total on any single rack.
Heaviest item is the 440 at 300kg, we can call it 400 including box and crossmember.

On Monday night I picked up my new (Old) truck.
it is a Hino FD Ranger.
It has been sitting for about 4 years after previous owner passed away.
He was a buggy and Speedway racer, and by good fortune he was a Valiant tragic at Speedway, I had actually bought a car he was building as a replacement for his old car.
Here is the truck at home with the speedway build on the back.


It started straight away with jumper leads and I drove it home.
When I got home I noticed a small water leak under the engine.
A quick look I could see it was coming from water gallery plate behind the injection pump, So I got stuck in and removed the plate.




Here is the hole.


New plates are still available and one is in an airbag to me and due to arrive today.
I also have an A/C kit on the way, so will make mounts for the compressor and adjuster this weekend and my Auto Gas mate has said he will fit the rest, make the pipes and gas it up for me.

Once it is mobile I will also grab 5 sheets of checker plate and replace the rotted wooden floor.

man you will have a lot of stuff to transport down to your new place dave it looks like ma couple of semi loads just for your cars and stuff .

Tools and car parts in a shipping container.
Cars will be culled, I cant see myself bringing any of the speedway stuff down.

dave you can always tell a good mechanic, when building stuff
There will always a forest razor(AXE) somewhere about and I see its in one picture at least

Yes I am a bad Bower Bird, although trying to wean myself away from it.
The free space on the ground is where the Charger shall return to on its Rotisserie.
Need to build it so I can drop the 440 in.

Always measure twice with a digital caliper then mark it with a crayon, then cut it with an axe.

I already have my home made one Rog, but thanks anyways.

Well the A/C did not turn up (but I had plenty other working options), but the engine side cover plate did.
So that got fitted up on Friday night, filled with coolant Saturday morning and tested, all is great.


I also managed to sell my little Isuzu truck (so although sad to see it go, go it must).
The buyer does contract Bull catching with a highly modified shorty 40 cruiser. so I threw in the old ramps of the Hino, my god they are heavy and not fun to remove.




Another job I had been stalling on but want to try button up Australia day and this weekend is an engine re ring and all new seals/gaskets for a work mates old Corona (1984), so I dropped the engine out of it this weekend and got that mounted on engine stand.
Will tear it down tonight and start removing timber from my truck bed.

Good work Dave

From the look of the tailgate it should be easy enough to modify to add a door to slide your aluminum ramps underneath. You would want to make some sort of locking mechanism to hook them to the back of the truck too.

Yep. I will have a better idea when all the timber is out, but I will find somewhere under the tray to hide them.
Just ordered 20 tie down turn buckles, also a 10t snatch block, so I can run the winch cable down along the tray bed if I manage to get a second Corona on the bed.
My thinking is to make some form of steel raiser that will let me put a Corona on backward, lift the front and put the raisers under the wheels, then get a second Corona on the back with the nose under the first car.
