Default Building a DRB 540

Hello everybody,

I am building a DRB540. Does anyone have any tips on how to fit the xr8 HVAC unit and fan unit to the firewall? Where do the holes through the firewall go for heater and aircon coils? How/ where do the hoses get routed?

I would appreciate any responses, so thank you in advance!

Thanks. Charles

I am pretty sure you need to buy a fitting kit from DRB if you havent yet.

Hey Charles,
If you have one of DRB's latest chassis' that will fit the whole ventilation unit from the falcon I can't help as mine is different. I did hear of one of the new chassis', when the motor was fitted, there wasn't enough clearance between the motor and firewall to hook up the air con and heater pipes. Best thing is to talk to Peter at DRB.

Thanks everybody for your ideas. I have taken out the actual aluminium heater unit, and will need to cut the in and out tubes short, and then reroute rubber heater pipes through firewall on passenger side, and the into the engine bay etc. I am trying to find some pre-bent heater hoses (tried supercheap auto!) so that the end result doesn't end up kinked.

I will need to fit sound deadening/insulation soon so hat I don't end up with too much rework.

I agree with WKB that the modern chassis allow fitment of the hvac units. So when I have worked out the way I'll post some info for the next builder.

Still a long way to go, but I'm getting quite excited now as I can see progress.

Cheers. Chucky
