Double G

In our case Yellow and Blue but the Tiges on the road would be great too - lol

And thanks for the well wishes Dimis.

Booked in for re-registration the day before Ostralia day 2016, which is 1 day shy of a 9 year rebuild!

To say I'm excited is an understatement.

I will also be driving very much like Miss Daisy - hah

Dependant on what we have planned for Saturday 9th and if Marty's shed is open, she might make an appearance in Noble Park as a first revisit to where it all started.

Once home I'll fit up the side pipes, as I had left these off to help the trimmer and to avoid damage.

I still also have a lot more aluminium folding to do in the boot. And I want to do some finishing off in the cabin with lids under the steering column and passenger side to nicely finalise the cabin look.

All this needs to happen before the car can revisit the trimmer some time next year for this carpeting and to then do the tonneau and soft top.

There will be plenty of driving in between time for sure - weather permitting of course!

Default An early Christmas present

So the beast has come home for Christmas and we are rapped!!

An unregistered vehicle permit valid until Boxing day as I trip to Perth of the 27th for our sailing Nationals.

Wanted a bit of a traditional sort of look so the seats were a pleated finish. We were very pleased too with the selection of the hide colour it was perfect to our eyes against the stripe.

The seats were tremendous in terms of comfort through the foam used. Interestingly Peter ordered a thick and thin seat base variant through Robnell. The thin one's are perfect both in terms of comfort (for short rides so far) and height behind the screen. I'd bought two hides and he ran out so no cover on the handbrake yet.

Use of pockets to the doors. Though I need thinner door sealing rubbers now.

And really nice finishing off work to all carpet edges, and why he ran out of hide. This is the passenger footwell end.

So a fair bit of work to go for roadworthy but at least I can do a lot of "testing" in between times.

Have a Merry Christmas gang, I know I will now.

Cheers

Looks great Slowy. With a bit of luck we'll see it at the Feb club meeting!

Will Peter be able to match the colour ok for the handbrake when he gets some more leather? I assume so.

Door pockets look good too. And the carpets are pro.

Thanks guys.

Hoping Peter can source some material to match up for the handbrake, however we will need to have a discussion regarding how the boot is finished off so perhaps further hide becomes involved at that time.

There is certainly attention to detail. Carpet was glued into the door hinge void area to black out any vision into this area. Peter wants me to make up plates so he can also cover into the dash corners.

The driver carpet included a foot rubbing pad that I only discovered yesterday and carpet was laid completely under the seating.

Car is booked into Advantage Suspension for alignment and review of brake and clutch operations. Not sure if he tunes as well but the engine has a slight tickle that needs some tuning TLC to fix I am sure.

Otherwise I've already clocked up over a 100km testing and need to still do a bit more correction including a speedo check.

When I get back Marty is to work through his RWC provider to hopefully get sign off on the car.

With a tad of luck and good weather for the next club meeting, I will be there.

Have a good Christmas all.

Cheers

Steve

Default More testing

So after the troops had left from today's Boxing day feed fest, I got a last head of steam and temporary wired up a cigarette style plug in for my Garmin.

All powered up well, so my middle son got duties to sit holding the GPS for us to check the speedo. Proved that I had been travelling well below speed which was what I had suspected from my testing on previous days.

The electronic VDO works best set having run a fixed kilometer so we did a bit of playing using exit distance references and got a modest result.

At least the speedo is now within cooeee. Reckon I was 20 kph + less before. This was a function of the change in gearbox and different tyres I guess.

Still think at higher speed the speedo dial is showing a touch less than actual so I need to correct this to avoid overspeed.

Otherwise all is great.

Over 150kms in testing so the car is being run in well too.

Cheers

Glad to hear you're getting some miles on the car after all the work you have put into it. I was looking for a (not serious) link to your car returning to you for Christmas.
Is there a shroud at your feet?!?

Craig

I am not religious but I love it.

My idea of church is a blasphemous visit to Dans.

Perhaps my youngest son, whose feet work left that impression, has some sort of saintly quality - ha yer right!!!!

A small update!

Have been told the car has its roadworthy and will be collecting the car from Marty's shed tomorrow.

Have a booking with Vicroads Seaford for first thing Monday to re-register the beast and she will be back on the road. And not before time too.

But of course there needs to be an exhaust rebuild and tweaking of both the clutch and brake hydraulics to get the car to where it really needs to be.

Likely to have Advantage do all these tweaks soon.

Will post Monday a plated car shot to celebrate.

Have a good weekend folks.

Default Finally re-registered

Despite a morning hiccup - the wrong coloured RWC paperwork - this arvo has turned into a red letter day.

Two of the most satisfying photos below for a long time.

For now its time to drive the wheel nuts off it. This given tomorrow represents 9 years in the rebuild! Time flies when life gets in the way it seems.

But as we all know these cars are a continuing journey and I've a number of plans to enhance the car's handling capability at least.

For now perhaps even drives to jobs where I know the parking and clients are cobra sympathetic, and the weather conducive. There are quite a few rev-head clients out there.

Cheers and I can now say - see you on the road!

Well done and great to see it finally on the road. Your perseverance is an inspiration. I must go for a drive when I get home!!! Seeing a newly registered car really brings back that feeling.
