Default The taxi motor is dead

It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that my taxi motor has died.
I started testing things last night (optimistically) hoping that it had a couple of dud valve stem seals, after putting compressed air into #8 and having the bulk of the compressed air go straight into the sump I can now conclude that it has no longer got compression rings or complete pistons in 3 of the 8 pots.

All is not lost though, I have Boxy looking around in the outback NT for a suitable replacement or there is always Ebay...

Not good Gav, what sort of work was it doing when you noticed the issues ?
Sounds like a good oportunity to return to a more 'traditional outfit' ?Either way Im sure you and Boxhead will sort it. It was a pleasure meeting you both at Shelbyfest this year.
Cheers

After the last session on the Saturday at Shelbyfest, it was missing cylinders on the passenger bank and would not idle.
The poor thing had to scream 'ENOUGH!' at some point.
I think Dave has found something usable for a replacement though

Great to meet you two too, are you back on the road yet?

I have got you covered Gav.

I found these out behind teh shed, if your bores are all good we can slap another stock bottom end in it for you.

I will degrease them and blow them dry so they are ready to fit, I think even the rings are still pretty good.

Or if your bores are shagged, I pulled this out of an old ****ter a while back.

I will get the wiper sniper out first then hit it with degreaser, should be good to go as it is, as the car that it was in stopped due to a smash and roll over, not an engine failure, probably go back and get the gearbox too if you need that?

Bummer Gav!

After a few goes round the clock even taxi motors can tend to get a bit smokey.

That will be AWESOME Dave!
The trans will probably be OK due to being preseved in that dry forgiving climate.

Be carefull not to clean off the dirt on the long motor though, patina is very important to me.

Ok, I will just cut the grass back a little first (to be sure no snake has made it home) then I will stick it on a pallet for ya.
