Quite a few guys running those filters on 302's.

Not me though, just wouldn't fit under my bonnet.

You do need a short dizzy for a start I think.

There's a million sizes, check out Summit Racing or K & N

David can you do me a favour. I'm in the process of a new engine going in and I'm not anywhere near the car at present and wont be for a while. The new engine has a 'fast' 4 barrel throttle body going on it and I'm wanting to get an air filter from summit that actually is oval and also pulls air through the top. Before dropping a few hundred can you do a measurement for me please ?.
From the centre of your carby how much room do you have before the firewall becomes an issue ?. I'm in the process of seeing what dizzy has come with all the other parts, I have left all the spec decisions with my engine builder, I just gave him a figure and I trust him totally.
Thanks in advance

Chris L

I'm using an Oval one from Summit that is top fed and quite compact.

Hi chris the center of the carb is 150mm to the bonnet rubber, 300mm to the firewall at the top and about 80mm from top of carb to the bonnet rubber, thats the same block as your current engine with an edelbrock rpm performer manifold and a holley 670

Thanks David, so I can assume a 2" thick filter sitting on your carby would extend to the front of the bonnet lip if it were 12" (300mm) long only just, assuming the mount flange is dead centre of the air cleaner, allowing for 150mm forward/150mm rear.
If that's correct then a 15" filter would extend approx. 40mm or 1.5" under the bonnet lip without fowling the height (80mm clearance/ filter height = 50mm). I'm assuming my new manifold and throttle body combined height is similar to your manifold/carby combo.
Maybe I better stick with the 12" version and give myself a chance , being a little to cute will bite me on the ass, particularly when I cant do the measurements on my own car !!
Appreciate your time
Cheers
Chris

Yeap thats correct chris, the only other small problem with mine is the center key lock for the bonnet and the windsreen wash nozzles, if it was me I wouldn't risk the 15" one either. 12" should just fit, mind you might just squeeze the 15" under the bonnet lip.
