d4's PACE 427 Build Thread
It’s a slow day at work today so I thought it was time to start my Build Thread.
Here’s where I’m at with the Build of my PACE 427
The crew at AP have started laying up the Boot, Bonnet inner Skin and Hoop Scoop.
I have also upgraded the body to the 427-S which adds more carbon and reduces the weight by about 22% from the standard 427.
The extra Carbon should look Spectacular underneath and I may leave the under body un-painted?
My Chassis is #16 and it should be starting soon.
So far I have following parts.
1. Gearbox TKO600 with Centre Shift Kit, bell housing and clutch & pressure plate
1. Rego plate
Not much of a list I know, but most of other parts will come with the Comprehensive Kit supplied by AP.
I have an Engineer reviewing the test reports and soon we will be sitting down to plan the build.
I’ve been hunting around for a EFI 351 Windsor from the mid 90’s and have found a few different suppliers.
Some engines come from the USA as dead motors and the workshop does a bottom end rebuild others supply them as is.
I still have plenty of time to find an engine and a few pop up on FleeBay & Gumtree from time to time.
Any info regarding to EFI 351’s for sale, modifying etc, please PM me or add comments to this Thread. Last time I rebuilt and engine was 20 + plus ago so I need to come back up to speed!
If all goes to plan I should have the car on the road around the end of 2014,2015,2016…………….

Great. Wow, 22% weight reduction will make a big difference especially with the alloy chassis.
Look forward to watching the build progress.

Good stuff, I look forward to following this one.
I assume you're going on club plates with that 20 year old motor or will you be running late model cam/computer/MAF/cats/etc to pass emissions?

Nice work,
Im chassis #17 I believe so looking forward to watching your progress.
Let us know how you go sourcing your power plant. Im told the stock 95' Mustang 351w with EFI will pass emissions. I was going to go the same way.
Dave.

D4, I had better keep the photos coming. And Steve and Mark had better keep cracking on with your body panels. I'm actually really excited to see your finished body in that colour you have chosen. Very unique and I reckon it will look spectacular.
TheDoc, you are actually chassis number #18. Hope that is ok. Yes, we have emissions certification and parts to comply a 351w for you. No sweat. You also have email update from me on your kit progress. Lots happening.
Personally I would go the same way with the 351, just love the ole windsors. Although you can understand guys going Coyote or LS, such great engines as well.

Thanks Guys, The updates will be slow at first but once we get going with the build the momentum will kick in.
Craig, Thanks for the pics and all the other updates on what's happening with my Kit and general AP and Cobra biz. Much appreciated
Doc, I've been hunting around US parts & importers and JT imports can get EFI 351 Windsor's which are then rebuilt for around 3k. All American Drive Line & Auto Parts Also get EFI 351 Windsor's from time to time.
Sambo, As Doc said the stock 95 Mustang 351W with EFI will pass emissions with cats etc.

That's good news with the 351W guys. Just remember in Vic every ICV goes on the rollers for the IM240 test. I'm no expert but I do know that it's not as simple as choosing a late model engine and dropping it in. I had a dodgy injector connection on my L98 that didn't pulse correctly and it failed the IM240 the first time due to running rich on the other 7 cylinders. It pays to get your tune checked, cats/MAF in the right spot, 5 gas analyser, etc, before plonking down your $750 for the test. Craig has probably worked all of that out for you but it was a bit of a nightmare for me 18 months ago, for other people who may be reading this.

Time frame
Hey d488y2
Glad to hear things are progressing at 100 mph or is is 160 kph now.
So far i have had NO trouble putting my Pace 427 together its like a giant Gigsaw but on steroids everything fits like a glove .
the only thing that will hold you back on the construction will be the time it will take to make decisions on what to do next.
My body is being fitted to the chassis at the moment and on friday I will be taking pictures to post on this forum.
As my kids used to say only 2 sleeps to seeing Santa Claus haha.
I think early 2014 is a date you will finish the car because you wont be able to contain your excitement about building the car.
Cheers
Brad

Sambo, that is very good advice. Get the engine checked first on dyno. We even recommend that for customers in states where there isn't emission testing. You just never know for sure how everything is exactly running without a dyno test. Better being safe than sorry.

No worries. Speak to Erol at EFI Dynamics in Lilydale if you want your tune checked. He's done a number of Cobras including mine.

Hey D488y2 and any others who may be interested.
if you change your mind on the 351 option, I have a 94 302 HO Mustang motor coming out of mine shortly ( hopefully a month or 2). The motor is in great order and has never missed a beat. It has done the last 2 Shelbyfests without an issue. Im replacing it with a 331 which is being built at present.
The engine has done approx. 70,000klm from what I have been told, 7K I have put on in the last 6 years. It has a HE baffled sump and a high efficiency H20 pump and some material taken from the upper & lower plenums to help throttle response. Apart from that she is stock. At this stage Im not 100% on what we are keeping electronic wise. The car is in research, Melb if anyone wants to hear it run. I also have a short video I can e-mail of it running in the car I can send to anyone interested. Its a great motor an I don't mind keeping it if it doesn't find a new home.
Cheers
Chris

Chris, that would be a great engine for someone building.
Boxhead, the EF's were never originally complied to our required ADR 37/01 emissions.

Thanks Craig, I am fairly reluctant to let it go as it has been terrific for me and would love to shove it into an old mustang one day !!
Im a little light on detail with what exactly will go with it at present, but will post a separate thread once 100% on what is offered.
I will be up your way in Sept school holidays and will poke my head in and have a look around if it suits you guys at AP.
Cheers
Chris

Chris, would be a pleasure you have you visit. With all the in-house manufacturing there is a lot to see. Plus we have a full schedule with all the other work we have at the moment.
