Yeah, he enjoys the company (or dislikes his wife)

Taxi Drivers

Gee Gav that's a bit unkind
Firstly i don't know if you have ever had a Taxi license but i can tell you Aussies don't drive Taxis because they think its beneath them when the dole is far more lucrative .
If you were in India and the native language was not your first language then you would struggle to find your way around as well. Mumbai and Deli are big places.
As for the deodorant issue the driver has been possibly working for more than 8 to 10 hours trying to make a living off passengers who like nothing more than to denigrate him for not being an English speaking driver.
When they speak to the passengers they get abused so why bother.
I have over 100 active drivers on my books and i admit we had problems in the beginning and its getting better now.
If it wasn't for the ethnic taxi drivers then you would be walking home after a few beers and i'm sure you don't want that to happen.
Their hourly rate is less than $20.00 per hour and out of that they have to pay their GST and Income tax which doesn't leave a great deal of money.
So please be tolerant of those who are trying to make a living in a strange country
Brad

Other than the lotto win sounds like my dad.
He drives limo/hire cars. Uses an AUDI Q7 these days (Merc before that), drives his regulars all because he thinks if he retires he'll die... Really I think he just likes the company.

Brad, all so true, but I'm quite aware why they only make $20p/h.
Equally, Gav's point is also quite true, despite it possibly striking a nerve with you
Any chance that the licence owners (you or your mates perhaps?) that are profiting handsomely, pass on more of the cut?
Just saying...

Thanks for your input Brad.
Being a taxi driver would be a prick of a job and I am the first to congratulate someone for having a go and filling a job that would otherwise be empty.
But at the end of the day deodorant is not that expensive.

I fly jets all over the world and the most dangerous part of my job is the taxi ride to and from the airport !!
London cabbies seem to have it well sorted. They work a small area, know it like the back of their hand, are well presented and generally very pleasant to chat to.
It can be done !!
In Melbourne I will not let my family in anything but a private hire car now.
A cabbie would not let a mate put his bags in the boot. After some words he reluctantly opened the boot to find his relief driver sleeping in there..
