Nats
Sadly, we may have a few QLD's pulling out. Broken engines (maybe it can be fixed in time?) GFC, and family stuff are all playing a part.
Never mind. With the 8 odd coming from the forum I guess you'd need another 90 odd to make it viable??? We used to get 100+ entries once upon a time. I think in 06 or 08 we had 120 entries from memory. The Mizzi years!
All seems pretty quiet.....anyone know why its not being as promoted or advertised as much this year?
A lot of us QLD's come down just to see rain, grey skies and sub 10 degree temps.. Its usually just boring bright blue and mid 20's here. Yawn.

Last year we had 86 entrants and we need about the same number overall to cover costs.
I don't think the amount of advertising is different, maybe the enthusiasm for the event has changed???
I do know it is pretty gutsy for the NSW club to take the financial risk every year to stage the event - a lot of $$$ at stake...

Kimbo, did u get my pm?
Maybe, being a national event and to help camber the risk to the Nsw club maybe all the state clubs could tip in like last year? They all tipped in as pledged... Didn't they?
I really hope u get more than your 90 odd. More the merrier. How's your numbers going so far?

Oops, I'm a pm virgin
I've now replied.
Any help we can get from other clubs would be most welcome.
As of yesterday we have mid twenty entrants - lots to go yet.
Everyone needs to keep in mind, entries are due in by 16 September as we really need to know where we stand at that stage.

Kim, PM returned.
QLD will have 32 people attending with 18 cars competing this year at last count. Possible 30/17 if broken engine can't be fixed.

I received a pm today by someone entered at this years Nationals worried that there was a possibility that the event may be cancelled due to low entry numbers. I can say that this would never happen and when I advised our president of this, he asked me to send the below email out to our NSW members - I thought it would be good for everyone here to see as well:
Hi Everyone,
This post is to confirm that the NSW Cobra Car Club Committee are committed to the running of the 20th Cobra Nationals, despite the number of entries, so cancellation is not an option.
The track, timing, venues, trophies, etc are all booked and we are looking for this year to be bigger and more successful than last year.
For those sitting on fence thinking it might not run…get off the fence and get your entries in ASAP, as it is going to be Great.
See you all on the long weekend

Although we don't wish for a quiet year, there are only upsides to less competitors from an entrants point of view. More track time and better odds of winning a trophy. So get those entries in. This is the highlight of the Cobra calendar and it is an expertly run event.

I've added the details of Cobra Nationals to our full page Unique Cars advert coming out this month. Won't help entries, but might help spectator numbers which never hurts.

The QLD club has put in again this year. Think the only club that put in last year was QLD...or am I wrong here...I actually think Wazza came up with the idea. Great idea mate by the way.

nationals
It is dissaponiting to here that there are low numbers this year. The Cobra nationals are a world class event run by a very capable and generous team.
It's is one of things that once its gone it will be lost forever.
Although I have no interest in competing anymore I still look forward to attending and catching up with everyone.
Unfortunately the VW drag meeting is on at the same time so I will fly up to Warrick for the Saturday, returning Sunday to see the sprint action.
To all the fence sitters, have a go, in all my years attending the nationals you never hear anyone say that they wish they weren't there!
I look forward to seing you guys there.
Phil

Ditto to everything said above. Us QLD's love the weekend away and anyone that comes from the Sunshine State as a newbie always seems to get pretty much hooked.
Every year we all come down as a very non competitive bunch but we do enjoy just a little bit of competition..................
Perhaps post 2013 State of Origin result (How many is that now? Was I not allowed to mention that?) the NSW'ers are reluctant to appear?
All jokes a pi$$ taking aside, send your entries in and come along for a play and social banter. The NSW Club goes to great lengths and financial commitment to put the event on every year for us Nationally to enjoy and we really need to keep the numbers and fun factor up to keep it as our yearly event.

Reading the sup regs there have been changes to the sprint format for this year. It looks like its gone back to the old way. I personally liked the new format as it promoted the ability (or lack thereof in my case) for a drivers skill to be amortised over starts and cold/warm/hot tires.... Anyway, just the heads up its now...
Event 5: 2.2km Super Sprints
There shall be 5 laps: 1 entry / warm up lap, 3 flying timed laps and 1 cool down lap / return to pits.

Yep, bit of a shame really, gives the 'lucky lappers' a bit of a chance....
It's more of a challenge to get 3 good laps than to get 1 'lucky lap'.
Maybe some competitors complaining of not being to be able to count to 3.....

Oops iPhone typo. Er meant 27.
Yep I agree. It's hardly a 50/50 call. Its like aussie politics...a party can win a Senate spot with fewer than 2000 primary votes, or 0.01 per cent of a quota.
