The gilmer drive doesn't make any noise. Neither does the exhaust.
Hopefully will fix that, have just put a holesaw through the mufflers. Now they are straight through.
Will try them soon.

Rossba

My coil packs were positioned on a plate located on the fire wall immediately behind the engine.

Cleans up the front of the motor considerably.

Try hiding the engine computer in the space where the glove box is, or should be. The poohy box will be cooler, and out of sight.

Ross,

Here's the idea that I came up with. Do you see any coil packs in this picture?

Well, I had an old 427 Surge tank that leaked like a sieve, so I cut the bottom out and made it into a coil pack cover. I had to modify the ends with some of the brass I cut from the bottom. I am using the same Ford EDIS coil packs as you, but turned upside down. I am using a Megajolt to control the ECU. One of these days I am going to clean the tank up and chrome it. Check it out from below and you can just make out the cable tie that holds it on:

I have to admit, it's one of my best ideas and you, my Cobra friend are welcome to it. Everyone else who uses it can send me $5.

The EDIS system makes the engine run SO much better than a distributor! It takes a long time to get used to the feeling that every cylinder is firing every time.

Default Excellent!

RS

Now that's clever. I had to look twice and follow the leads.

Well done RS.

I am not sure if I can do that as the thermostat housing on the ford may be in the way.

With the popularity of viynal wraps these days, how about take a pic from above of your favorite engine bay, get a Wrap produced, then cover the entire opening.....done.

Also, I had to look twice on where the leads were running , good work with the tank and Zip tie.

Default Alternate coil pack location

Rossba

Sorry mate my new job has had me head down arse up and not much time in-between however a few shots of my relocated coil pack arrangement.

Essentially a mounting plate was made up and bolted to the chassis tunnel steelwork just behind the manifold. I don't seem to have a shot with the manifold in place so I took a couple of photos low down to give some indication of height against the block.

An early engine bay shot

Packs with leads still attached

Some idea of how the packs are mounted and height

And you can see the pack height is about level where the base of the manifold will sit bolted to the valley.

Marty Govett set this up for me and it has nicely cleaned up the front of my motor as is my plan.

Even the main engine management wiring to that large plug visible on the passenger side of the motor will lead back down into the tunnel to hide its appearance into the engine bay.

Might have to fit up some nice coil lead guides but that's some time off yet.

Anyway I hope this is of some help and gets the thought process going.

Cheers

Looks good Slo.
Not sure if I have the room there now that I look at yours. My body is a DRB and they have a bulk head running around the back of the motor under the hood. I have thought about putting them them and making a cover for them but the leads will still be a mess.
I have also dropped the engine 2" and moved it back 3" from where DRB place them so it is now as close to the dash as I could get it.

Thanks for the pics. Always good to look at them.

I change the the front of the engine from the timing cover forward and made it the same as my XY. Looks much better than with all the alloy brackets everywhere. The only thing I couldn't change was the balancer and had to make a bracket for the crank trigger. I put the dip stick in the timing cover also and when I change the sump that long one can go. Wanted to run a v belt but because of the balancer I ended up with a gilmer set up.

Ross

Now that I look at these four pictures I believe Marty must of relocated the mounting plate on me at some time as the whole assembly has dropped considerably between the first two photos and the last two.

It's obvious why, when you look at the location of my bonnet latch in the last two photos, it was never going to fit with the coils as located in the first two photos.

Don't remember that one - ha

But I know what you are saying about the DRB firewall and if you've moved the donk back as well there will be no room.

Perhaps you could do a sort of Aussie Mike and hide a coil to each side of the motor in front of the footboxes or some other location. You'd need to get new leads made but it would take the coils out of view as you want.

Wait to see what you choose on this.

Cheers

Unfortunately most of the foot well is in the wheel arch.
The tunnel wasn't even wide enough to fit the engine in. I had to cut the plate steel out and move them in to put the pipes on.
I was thinking about putting one coil pack on one side to run one side and put the other on the other side to run the other side. If the coils could be rewired so the spark plug leads don't need to cross over to the other side this could give us better options.
I don't know of any auto electricians that could work it out.
