Harrison sidepipes - mounting
My sidepipes arrived from GAS-N Performance Products - Home last week. 304 stainless and quality work as you can see below.
Just wondering how Harrison owners have attached the body of the sidepipes to their cars, given the flat floor and limited ground clearance?
It seems like the best option is to fix a bracket to the sill, maybe a piece of angle? Someone suggested using a few nutserts in the side and bottom of the chassis rail where the body is fixed.
These sidepipes are made to suit Factory Five and come with a nice mounting arm that pivots off a chassis rail and uses something similar to a rubber exhaust hanger to allow it to flex as the engine revs, and I suppose over bumps in the road. No good for the Harrison unfortunately.
Here's a photo showing the mount on the pipes, which can be easily moved. And below that a trial fit that I did last week.

I have a straight bracket with a thimble style rubber mount supporting mine.
The rubber mount is a FJ radiator mount from memory, they have a 1/4" bolt out each end of a 1" cylindrical body. Repco will have them.
I am yet to break one, or melt one for that matter!

Gav,
My Harrison side pipes came with a Chrome bent bracket fitted with a rubber offset mounting so I simply swung the bracket arm up to the floor pan fitted a 30 x 30 x 3 Ali angle up to the floor pan and backed it with a Ali flat 3
x 6 m/m bolts nylock nuts then bolted the Chrome bracket through the angle.
Has been on the road now for 2 years no problems.

Deano, big glass-packed resonators but no cats. Plenty of room for cats in front of the foot boxes at the end of the headers. I'd like to run live pipes but not at the cost of friends or family getting burnt.

thanks for that sambo there a nice looking set of pipes .. yep burnt legs are not fun for anyone ive got skingrafts to prove it not due to cobra exhaust tho :-)

I am paranoid about passengers getting in and out burning themselves, in reality though anyone getting in or out is VERY careful!
My two boys are not phased by the exhaust in the least.
My niece used mine and two other cobras as a wedding cars, she and the brides maids got in and out (with assistance) in full wedding dresses.

Pipes
SAMBO,
Nice pipes, I too have a pair of FF pipes on my RMC.
I had them extended as I don't like the short look.
I also had them coated (after the dyno) to reduce the heat.
If anyone is running active side pipes they MUST coat the pipes, it reduces the
Radiant heat, they keep their colour and most importantly stop 3 degree burns.
If anyone gets into my car I always assist them even though I have them coated.
Nothing worse than a burnt leg to start the trip

Stiffy, I wouldn't have bothered with polished stainless if I planned to coat them - but I agree, the ceramic coating is very effective, I have it on my headers.

Gav, I'd be more concerned about taking the car on a run, what happens when you go inside the pub/cafe for a drink and a toddler notices the shiny pipes - it all happens very quickly as you probably know. Or a "well healed type" leans over to inspect the gauges? Lawsuit.

Yeah, but you can't help stupid sometimes too.
I have wrapped the inner of mine with weld blanket, perhaps that's why mine don't get hot enough for me to get too worried about it.
I don't leave mine anywhere either.

I have the same blanket in mine as what Gav does (thanks Gav), and after a couple of minutes sitting, my side pipes are warm to touch (not burning hot) however, the turn out pipes coming through body work, remain hot for some time.
My fear (same as you Sambo) was a kiddie seeing the car and deciding the side pipes make a good step ladder to get a better look inside the cabin (have caught kids doing this at car shows).
With your mounting Sambo, since you are not running them live, you probably don't really need them rubber mounted, I would have though something in engine bay holding the flange, and a mount about 3/4 way back would be enough.

Yes, the front of the pipes are attached with angle (see album), very solid fit.

Unless you're running solid engine mounts or a flexible pipe up front, you should incorporate a flexible mount at the rear. Don't want stress cracks in that shiny muffler.
Aussie Mike had some good pic's of his set up a while back. i think there were bushes through the chassis rail with long bolts. this way they can't fall off if the rubber fails.

Where did you get them coated. Mine are polished and look good, but they have left a nice little reminder on my nkle about not getting too close to them.
Thinking might leave them there and do a undercar system, but first I have to change all the springs as they are too soft.

TL, I sent mine to HPC in Leongatha. Freight was about $30 return and they are excellent to deal with.

What are the four bolts sticking through the floor? They aren't the seat mounts are they?
