Consumer affairs worked well for my dad when he had a major service from ford and they hadnt even changed oil, let a lone the filter, shockers or spark plugs, needless to say we do all our own servicing now, unless the vehicle is under new car warranty, even then we check everything, after a certain prestige car service left a spanner sitting on the water pump!

My Triton is lucky to get 600km to a tank......what's the fix please??
Just had syncro on 3rd replaced under warranty and I reccon 2nd isn't real good.
Dealer said it seems ok for now, bring it back if i gets worse and they'll remove the gearbox again......seems crazy to me!

I remember fixing a cobra in Sydney that kept going to this workshop for numerous problems which came from another workshop
This shop kept ringing me to come do the job so each time I went out to fix these issues
Was at customers expense
The orig workshop didn't like me for some reason hahaha but he didn't know that I was going out to fix this car
I told him if he had let me do it all at the start he would have saved money and tows
Then I ran into customer and told him all what happened and he was not happy
I just laugh sometimes

well today the cobra went to the Burpengary transmissions
open the pan & low & behold the problem hit them right in the face
the shifter shaft & rooster plate was loose & in upside down & the selector shaft was fitted back to front so
they checked it all out & found only those 2 things the problems
thanks side show I watched them test the box & ran it on a scanner & checked all codes & no faults found
so around the block we went wooo & the looks we got
if any one in Brisbane north want a gear box place Burpengary transmission are the real deal
all the that was a cost of $ 220.00 cash now to get the thing up to temp to check the gauges all work & get the tacho working then all the insulation to be fitted

Nice work.
RE the tachometer. Let us know how you get on. I'm about to tackle that also. I believe it needs a 12v step up with a resistor added in, the guage set to 4cyl and the tach output set to crank in the ECU. That's just my initial research though. Hoping someone else can confirm this?

Just use a normal tach, no need for a resistor and set it to 4cylinder mode.
Easy peasy.

cool
its pretty involved to hook and auto up to a transmission dyno
that's y most shops cant do it
and u need a good transmission only scanner to actually be able to control the auto without the engine ecu so I recon 70% of shops don't have one just like I find the same amount of mechanical shops don't have scanners or know how to use them properly
that's y they ring me hehe

u do need some sort of resistor for vdo tachos and ls1 and e38 ecus
ask the guy who did your ecu for what settings he used
later e38 ecus u need to make sure settings are right so ask your tuner
normally the cheaper the tacho the no need for a resistor

side show
rang the ecu tuner
he said that I need a 1k ohm resistor in line from pulse wire to bridge to feed wire
as the signal is needing boost
he also said as you did that most cheap tacho don't need this
I hope this is right & are the resistor directional eq ;; 1 side to power only

cool
they can go either way
just splice one end to ign wire
and the other to signal wire

I had to fit a 3k ohm "pull up" resistor between 12v ignition and tacho signal. My setup is L98 with E38 computer and VDO gauges.

Does the tacho need to be set to 4cyl pulse or 8cyl?
Anyone used a speed hut tacho with e38?

it depends on settings in ecu
std holden setting u need to use 4 cyl
e38s are slightly different so make sure yr tuner knows what to change to get tacho to work

I have a standard HSV tune with vats removed. Will tach signal be off? I guess it's the same for speedo signal?

if they just did vats then probably not
we don't do dyno tuning but we know alot about whats involved when doing conversions
90% of proper dyno tuners are drive in drive out commodores so all they need to do is a performance tune so they don't know some of the fiddly things needed when u fit these engines into other cars
and tacho is not the only thing we change so best of take ecu back to yr tuner and tell him to do it properly otherwise tell your tuner to ring the shop that sells the software and ask them what to do as I find most tuning shops think that their **** don't stink and are frightened to ask for help
ask sambo the hassles he had with his ecu that came from good old usa which is why we hate the cheap and nasty kits from usa

I don't have a tuner. I got the computer off eBay. Completely standard except vats. I got my motor from Sams so I guess they would be the one to go to. Depending on price I might consider buying the software.

Wrong person sideshow. You guys provided my ECU as part of the engine harness package. Not sure what the problems were but I had to send it back a few times before Justin sorted it out.
