Nice update.

I got pinged by the engineer for using clear with an orange bulb. The Lenses are E marked and have a number along side. The number on the clear L691 lenses is for a parking light and not a turn indicator. Replacement lenses are cheap enough, you can change them out later.

But I think the yellow bulbs have an offset pins where the bulb locates, so base might be different for clear or yellow bulbs.

Great pics! It's interesting to think about the effort and money that guys are spending in trying to get a Jag IRS to live behind a stout motor, when the standard parts on an AP are infinitely stronger to start with...

Nope - have changed back and forth between clear and orange on mine. Exactly the same lens, just different colour.

Thanks Richard, good pics.

Craig did mention he had changed the indicators to clear when I spoke to him at the Motorclassica late last year, but that a few had orange lens. Maybe yours was the last in the batch?

Hmm, fair enough.
Pretty sure I have seen offset pins on factory Holden and ford! but probably aftermarket in straight pin is also available?

That's strange Craig swapped mine from yellow to clear and my rear lights from coloured to clear said the others wouldn't pass.

Here's a handy guide to interpreting what the E markings on the lens means.

Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

I got pinged because the E mark on my white lens was for A Front position lamp (colloquially: "city light" or "standing lamp"; "side light" in British English, "parking lamp" in American English). Where as the Orange lenses are marked 1 Front turn indicator for use more than 40 mm away from low beam headlamp axis

My engineer actually checked the numbers on them as part of the report.

No idea the ones that were on it weren't returned so I cant even check.

Just as a general statement/question it makes you wonder why they are so specific on cars with these lenses when QLD transport doesnt even check ADR compliance on trailer lights when you register a trailer and I would have thought that indicators tail lights and stop lamps on a trailer were equally important.

The difference is that it's an engineer checking it against the ADRs. QLD transport or Vic Roads when they check something it's usually just clerical (do the chassis numbers match yes or no). They rely on the Engineer to have dotted the i's and crossed the T's.

Trailers seem to be a bit more lax. If we had to have an engineers report on a trailer I imagine they wold be a bit more strict.

When I bought a NSW trailer from a CC member and re registered it in Qld, the safety check guy went over it and noted it was a bit wider than was allowed in Qld. So when the missus took the trailer to DMT and the office chick asked her to hold the tape measure.............

I have just fitted the side louvre a, so will try to find an updated photo of that to post.

Thanks to everyone with information about the indicators. I am visiting the AP factory on Tuesday to collect some parts, so will ask Craig about this when I am there.

I have decided to fit ABS to the car, so will need to add a second brake line to the rear. This is something I would have been better doing BEFORE the engine etc went in, but better late than.... I hope to get the extra parts next week and to start fitting the brake lines next weekend.

How much cost / technical know how is required to add ABS?

Is it an option from AP or something you are incorporating from scratch?

If you buy a Commodore wreck for the motor and box then you should be able to incorporate it ..... I believe Neil Streeting was looking at this option.

I believe the ute ABS system is the preferred one for our cars as it's less complicated than the sedan version.

Nice Ash. I've been chatting to Neil about this drivetrain option, hadn't discussed the extras like abs. Mmmmm...

Hi Tony,

I have been speaking with Neil Streeting too and he is sourcing the parts for me. I think they are from a Holden sedan, but will check with him.

It is not something that AP are offering just now, but I figure it is a very worthwhile add-on. I don't think it is too difficult to do, just needing an extra brake line to the rear, plus the controller and electrics under the bonnet.

I hope to get into this in the next two or three weeks, so will let you know how it goes.
