I just got back from the AP factory with a lot of parts and fittings.also Craig gave me the clear front indicators to try. I swapped hem over and the look is so much better. I didn't expect that.

A couple of people have asked for some photos of the car as it is now, so here are three, assuming I can do this from an iPad....

Cheers

I think the clear indicators are the go, Richard. Although what colour are you planning to paint (if different to the grey)?

Hi Guy,

Yes,they look much better, don't they?

At this stage, I will paint the car a metallic silver when it is completed. That might change with time, of course, but I like that colour combination with a silver stripe.

Cheers,

Richard

Great photo, the car looks similar to the finish that I am looking for. Her is a pic of what I want the car to look like when it is done.

Cheers

Yea, that looks great.
I reckon some stripes, maybe dark grey or black on yr gelcoat colour would look awesome.
Then you can spend the money you save elsewhere!
My opinion only, just putting it out there.
That grey was a colour I seriously considered too.
Cheers.

Wow, lovely colour - I think that silver looks great on Cobras. Yours looks very like the brushed aluminium of the Kirkhams, stunning!

I am newbie here on CC but I must say that is the coolest suspension setup I've yet seen on a cobra. Indy rear? Linkage coilovers in front? Wow. All the aluminum bits. (do you say that word like the Brits?) Love the build. Love all the shiney parts and high quality parts. Would LOVE to do that. I've built much crappier stuff and repaired things, that looks actually like a lot of fun.

High Dirkdaddy,

Welcome to the forum!!

Yes you're right - every time someone sees the suspension, they say the same thing - and it is a great set up.

The Pace 427 is a great kit too - very high quality, and no real need to fabricate parts. This is one of the aspects that I enjoy most: I am not having to find parts from different cars and then trying to make them fit the kit. Everything comes from Pace and it is all designed to go together, which makes it a more rewarding build, at least in my mind.

Cheers,

Richard

Default And I thought I was doing so well...!

So here is how the car looked this morning. The build has been coming along really well and as a result I haven't been on the forum for ages. Too busy building!!

Then I took the body off - so now it feels like I have just gone backwards several steps!!

What do they say - two steps forward and one back? But actually I have to say the car looks sensational even without the body on. And how easy is it to get at bits and areas that I could only reach with difficulty before.

Getting the body off was reasonably simple - it took just two of us to do it (this was the first time that it has been off during the build).

While the body is off, I am going to fit all of the (36 pairs of) rod end seals. If I had known that they were needed I would have done this as part of the rolling chassis build. It would have been much easier then. I also have to fit some bolts to the fuel tank, and this can only be done while the body is off.

And as it is so easy to get at everything, I am planning a very busy week or two and want to get as much done as possible and get the body back on again quite quickly. I am sure that will be harder than taking it off.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Chris,

I am going to go with rear, under car, exhaust and dummy side pipes for the moment and if I feel that it's the right thing to do I will change to live pipes after registration.

Cheers,

Richard

Good to know, as I await my kit. Was this tidbit not evident in the build manual?

These boots are not required by all states/engineers, actually the only place where our customers have needed to fit them is in NSW.

In our opinion they are not required for normal use as the rod ends have a suitable service life without them. But they are wanting them fitted in case the vehicle is driven regularly through harsh environments - unsealed roads, snow, wet weather etc. Not a typical Cobra driving environment.

We have now added a note to our build manual that they may be required and to check with the engineer etc. Our build manual does contain detailed and up-to-date compliance information, we would be unique in this regard.

Hi Guy,

Yes as Craig has said, NSW seems to want these fitted and it was the engineer here who specified their requirement. It was in the manual, and I guess I should have checked first. Anyway, with the body off it will be a lot easier to do now. So guess what's on the agenda today.....

Cheers,

Richard
