Seams run the full length both sides, Jon, around the cockpit lips from and rear, and then the trickiest bits where three panels meet in the corners around the lights and tops of the door openings. Fiddly little suckers! Just finished the last one tonight, so will cut the whole body with the polisher tomorrow night.
And thanks Gregg, I wondered who was going to recognise my test tunes! Sprung!

Guy, is yours and two others exhausts getting done at Motorsport Engineering Services in Mentone? If it is then it is the same guy (Derek Van Zelm) that built my V8 Supercar. Very good quality work!

Yep Ash, one and the same. Does the Porsche Carrera Cup cars too I believe. Glad to hear another good reference.

Interesting, what other types of work do they do? I looked them up (only on Google maps) that mob is 1 minute from my house.

Mostly racecar fabrication, machining and metalwork Ben, and they specialise in Chevrolet/Holden power. Although, there was a Coyote on an engine stand in their shop.
Lovely guys to work with. Andy the fabricator is ex-HSV. He spoke with his former colleague when I was there who told me that the only cat they tested that would pass the IM240 was the OEM Holden V8/HSV cat. Luckily Guy and I both have a set that Derek will be using.

Derek rang me and told me.... Said I've got three of your Cobra mates cars to do exhausts for......
He built the cage in LJ's 944 Porsche racecar too, he does quite a bit of that stuff.
If you get a chance Take a look at the Sports Sedan he is building at the moment, it'll be next generation if he ever gets it finished. |

Hey Guye, thanks for sharing your build. Just curious if the seam repairs and thin gel coat are only related to your kit or are others having this drama? I was under the impression that the body was immaculate and didn't need any work. Anyway keep the updates coming it looks great!

there are two options you can take. the body as it comes out of the mould and you do the trimming of the seams and detail the body or you can pay the extra and have pace do it for you so the choice is yours as to what option you wish to take.
myself i paid the extra cause i hate doing body work but i don't mind doing the mechanical side of things .

the finish is very good but i think and this is just my personal view , if you want a true show type finish you would need to paint it . the body once detailed is very good the colours stand out and there better than a average paint job and easier to maintain .

Deano is spot on Benny. It is a great finish, and very serviceable. But for show quality you would need to paint it definitely. For starters you would really want a metallic finish probably too.
For buyers, I would definitely recommend taking the option Deano did and having Pace finish off the body for you; it would be easier for them to rectify any slightly shallow spots they might find.

How resilient is the Gel-coat to minor scratching?
I've been working with some fiberglass bits at home recently and found the Gel-coat really marked easily,, was also easy to buff out as well though.
Maybe clear coating would make them pop even more and help to stop scuffing of the gel-coat.
Spectacular looking Dean. Love the colour too.

My feeling is the gelcoat is certainly softer then normal car paint Dave, yes. One of the paint experts could verify that I'm sure. And being much thicker you can buff gelcoat much more.
Dunno about clear coat - good thought. Sime? Anyone?

To me the gelcoat option is great but it's never going to replace a professional paint job. I like the idea you can order the car in the colour you like, run it for a few years to offset the build cost then paint it down the road when finance allows and your real colour choice is set in. Plus having a nice shinny car in build is very motivating.
